Down and Derby (DVD, 2006)

I thought this was about as true to life as a movie gets, with the fathers more involved with building the winning Pinewood Derby car and the boys left outside. Good story line , great actors. We have a special interest in the DVD since some of the cars that our Boys made are actually featured in this movie. We mailied the producers of the show several different styles and they used 80% of what we sent them. Our boys are very proud of this and it puts this movie in a special part of the boys accomplishments. They not only were able to help other Cub Scouts by building and making bodies for other boys who don't have access to tools and shop space, but to be a part of a movie showing some truth in the way the Pinewood Derby can be for some kids.
We gave this movie a good rating as some of the parts were stupid and boring as the boys would say. But overall the content and the message came across that some parents really get carried away and lokk back for a chance to fulfill a fantasy or dream they had of winning the Pinewood Derby . This is a movie that parents and boys should view together before they start their Pinewood Derby car. After you watch it you'll have a better appreciation of working on the car as a team effort of parent and child. Or if the child is really talented supervisor the construction of the car. But the main thing is to watch this together as a family movie night.

Cute show. Good family entertainment. Great for the scout in your life. I recommend it for a great evening at home with that important little scout. Pine wood derbys are a lot of fun for that little scout. This movie shows how involved fathers and sons get building a pine wood derby car.

I have been through the derby with my son and had to fight that urge to take over everything. Lucky for me I didn't have the ghosts in my past that these people did.

My wife doesn't overly like movies but said this one was pretty good. That is like a normal movie goer saying a movie was absolutely fantastic. LOL

I watched it on family night and my 8 year old son liked it as well. It just has it all, not the best movie I have watched but one of the better ones.

If you have ever raced or watched someone race in a Pinewood Derby this will be a film you have to add to your collection. If not then it is still great family entertainment. Really can't go wrong!

I purchased this for a joint girl/boy scout derby day. I thought it would be a great filler for kids and parents who were bored with the derby. It is an excellant movie, and so true when it comes to the parents at times. This is for the kids and a good lesson learned. Thanks..

A little too silly for adults, and not really geared for the kids. It was scary I saw a little of myself in that movie. Next year I will let my son build my I mean his car.

The shipping time was very quick and the DVD came new as shown. The kids really enjoyed it, especially my 2 boy scouts!

This is a really cute movie. It captures the competitive spirit of the parents involved in derby races. As a Cub Scout leader, I have seen on many occassions the parents becoming more obsessed with winning than the boys. This is a very enjoyable movie. You can definitely see yourself or someone you know in it.

This is a wonderful movie, and oh so true!!!! OK derby dads you know it is!!! It is a must see for anyone with a Tiger Cub Scout and a upcoming derby race or just for fun viewing!!!!

As a reward for a great popcorn season our pack had a family movie night and decided to show Down and Derby since Pinewood Derby season was only a couple weeks away. It was a great hit.

We think it is funny because dads do get so involved with the "Pinewood Derby". These dads goes a little over the top.

I found many of the jokes right on target.

Run time about 90 minutes.

I don't think it would work for MOVIE time with the Cub Scouts but each family might like to borrow it. I am glad I purchased it. It is good clean fun.

this is a hard to find movie, but a "must see" for families involved in boy scouts and the Pinewood Derby

We are in Scouts,and like stuff like that. We watched with our 3 Boys and they liked it too.The reason that I bought it,you can't find it any where else.I would recommend it to others to watch.

every cub scout dream is to have the winner car at the pinewood derby. or is that DAD's.

join a couple of families who take to the track, relive the fun of building a pinewood racer, and trying to get DAD to not help so much. of striving to be the best on racer day, and reliving the competition of youth.

Down and Derby is a comedy about anytown USA. It is a light-hearted movie about a Pinewood Derby competition that converts a neighborhood of dads into a competitive group of "First Place" trophy seekers. This comedy depicts the very nature of parents revealing their "true" nature and their struggle to win no matter the cost.
I decided to buy this movie after my child entered his local scouts' Pinewood Derby. There was a mixup with the scoring techniques used, however the parents kept their cool and the event eventually resolved itself into a fun and entertaining derby.
I recommend this to all parents.

My kids love it. I showed on a movie night to our cub scout pack. The parents who usually sit at the back and talk actually watched and laughed at it. My kids have watched it several times at home.

This was a cute movie, some good actors/actresses in it. It was a cute story which I think any parent of a cubscout can understand the desire to help your child win the pinewood derby, gone to the full extreme. I have heard of dad's like this (maybe not quite this bad) who just want to win. One town over from us, they have to hold pinewood derby's for the parents so they will allow the kids to make their own cars. A great Friday night movie.

This was the most hysterically funny movie I have seen in years! Anyone who has been through a PW Derby can relate. The acting is very good, and the cameos of famous Scouters is a "don't miss" feature. Try to catch the original Cubmaster who created the Pinewood Derby many years ago -- he's in there!

My husband did wince a little when he realized how closely he could relate to the dads in the movie!

This movie is fantastic. It is a must for all Pinewood Derby Dads see this movie before they decide to build their son's car. I am buying more copies of this film before our pack's next derby next year.

I showed this movie to "first-time" pinewood derby dads and kids. We all loved it very much. The movie shows very cleverly how not to handle the car building.

Did not stop me from building my son's car on my own and he is not allowed to touch it until after the big race. :-)

Watched this movie at my sons cubscout meeting. It was much better than we (parents) thought it would be. It was alot of fun. This is a great family movie. Lots of fun for everyone!

This is a must see for all cub scout parents! Very funny, but so true to life! A good family movie without any vugarity and cussing.
