pretty crummy. It really didn't have any substance to it. But then the only substance about the film was the substances the doors were ingesting. I knew more about the movie before I even saw the movie. no wonder the Blockbuster in our area took it off their shelves!

Stone hasn't so much made a movie about The Doors as he's made a tribute to the mythology of Morrison. The rest of the band is backdrop as Morrison (Val Kilmer) gets stoned, drunk, and increasingly fat and pretentious. There's nothing to like about this character, except for his talent and charisma, both of which he abuses and forsakes — the same treatment he gives his spinelessly loyal girlfriend Pam (Meg Ryan). Morrison the character never makes emotional connections with anybody, and this includes the audience. Nevertheless, there is much that is brilliant about this film. Kilmer, for one, gives an incredible, uncanny performance as Morrison. He moves and sings with same ghostly quality. He does not impersonate the dead singer, he is possessed by him. It is one of the greatest pieces of acting I've ever seen, and goes far to compensate for his unlikability. Stone, too, accomplishes much, despite the film's narrative failings. The Doors is beautifully shot (by Stone favorite Ralph Richardson) and captures visually the essence of The Doors' music and the atmosphere that created it. Aesthetically, the movie is a tremendous accomplishment; one of the great marriages of music and film. Too bad it doesn't move us. Watch for the bald extra who pops up in nearly every scene.

Val Kilmer gives an excellent performance in Oliver Stone's The Doors. I don't think there's enough of getting to know the characters in the movie. You get to know the mostly bad sides of Jim Morrison, which I guess Oliver Stone wants to focus on his excess which is alright, but I wish he would have let us get to know the other bandmates more. Oh well, maybe next time. This small shortcoming is made up for in the cool concert footage which is amazingly accurate and the excellent acting performances. Great soundtrack. This movie made me go out and buy all their albums.

very good movie if your a true fan of the doors pretty much follows the life of jim and not so much the band though very interesting though

You´re not necesarily need to be a DOORS fan, you only need love rock´n´roll to enjoy this film.

In the 90´s when I first read that Val Kilmer was the elected actor to play the role of Jim Morrison , I think skeptical that he even didn´t look like him, but after I saw him, I know that Val Kilmer really transform and captures the essence of Morrison.

This film can only be seen on cable tv, mutilated or in midnight function because of the nudity.

The script was based among other sources in the book "Riders On The Storm" written by former DOORS drummer John Densmore and tells the story of the rise and fall, life and death of Jim Morrison tortured soul.

The dvd have a lot of extras including 43 minutes of additional scenes and a documentary "The Road of Excess" who have original concert footage.

In the movie appears many cameos like former DOORS Robby Krieger(guitarrist), John Densmore (drummer), Paul Rothchild (producer of DOORS records), Billy Idol (punk pop singer who later recorded a DOORS cover "L.A. Woman"), Eric Burdon(from THE ANIMALS, 60´s group), Oliver Stone (director of the film), Patricia Kennealy-Morrison (journalist and supposed Morrison´s wife, in the film was interpreted by Kathleen Quinlan), etc. among others.

So don´t wait no more and enjoy this film that is pure entertainment that scorched your eyes and blast your ears.

I bought this movie, because I could not find in at any store or movie rental place. I am very pleased with it.

Oliver Stone's The Doors movie starring Val Kilmer was phenomenal. Val Kilmer really looked like Jim Morrison and I love Meg Ryan as Pamela Morrison his "cosmic mate". A must see for Doors fans!!

Olive Stone does try to present documentary subjects in a most subjective light. Did the Doors legendary Superstar lead singer really follow a tragic car accident image from his youth and carry over the disturbing images with him throughout his galaxy rise in contemporary music to a tragic early death via drug overdose? The movie presents much of the Doors' music and insights into their rocky relationships, inhanced and prolonged through alcoholism and drug usage. We are invited to join the troupe and "ride the snake". The music, storyline, and images are compelling.

This is a very good movie with some really great actors and supporting actors, I would definetly recommend this to anyone who is a fan of the Doors.

This is a great movie! i can watch it over and over again. If you like the band the Doors then you will like this movie. Val Kilmer does a great job portraying Jim Morrison. Add this movie to your collection and you wont be disappointed!

That's what this film is..B-o-r-i-n-g! Doc Holliday what were you thinking?..Yes I agree Val did a great job, but the movie was boring..if you're into watching people constantly strung out on drugs and having s*x then by all means this film is for you!! We watched nearly an hour of this movie and was bored to tears..we ended up turning it off and picking a different movie "Species 2" now *that* was a fun film to watch..The Doors just kinda laid there like a sad watch me please lump!! We wont be keeping this dvd!!

I thought that this movie was great. I also love the music from The Doors. They picked the right people for the parts. This is for a Doors fan or one of the actors fans. The real story of The Doors is different than the movie from what I have learned, but it is still Great.

Ahhh...A better "rock band" movie has never been made. The story and the acting still stand up to the test of time. This is by far the best role that Kilmer has ever or will ever do. If you have not seen this movie you need to. If you have seen this movie..this 2 disc special edition is worth picking up...some of the greatest extras put on any DVD reside here.

So...do yourself a favor and GET THIS MOVIE!...You can find it dirt cheap here on E-bay...I paid a penny for mine. Great acting...Great direction...Great music and a touch of American Music History wrapped up in a fantastic 2 disc set.
