Once I played this on my cousins PC I knew I just had to have this game!
I love horror-thriller games like Doom 3 and hope that they do make Doom 4!
This starts out as a lighted game but very soon into the game it becomes dark and sinister.
Things lurking in the dark and the boogy man waiting to pounce on you!
I have Doom 3 and have won it.
I have Doom 3: Resurrection of Evil and have not won the Expansion yet.
Over all I give this game a perfect because it is nothing like the Originals in graphics plot or overall road killing with your guns!
This game is surely not for the faint of heart nor for kids under 18!

Another Great Game for Doom lovers out there~
Review created: 10/24/07

Doom 3 PC Game

For the fans of the Doom saga, this release does not disappoint. You battle your way through the different areas facing ever more increasingly nasty foes. From demons, to zombies, to monsters, everything is thrown at you. While the game is very dark, the muzzle flash from your arsenal of weapons provides glimpses of the gore and horror you bought the game for. Playing it at night, in the dark, alone is pretty scary as the game designers keep you on the edge of panic as you battle your way to yourself. I recommend a mod called “DUCT TAPE” for the feint of heart if you can't handle the dark. Duct Tape provides the Shotgun and Assault Rifle an under the barrel flash light so you can actually see what you are shooting at. The mod does not interfere with the Pistol so the introduction stages of the game are not altered. The beam of light is also much more narrow and focused than the normal flash light which you still have.

PROS – Great graphics and a storyline that keeps you on the edge of your seat.
CONS – Dark game, so dark that all the detail is in shadows. Recommend DUCT TAPE MOD cheat code.

Nows the Time for Doom 3 !!! Classic Doom fans Read!
Review created: 08/30/07(updated 09/16/07)
4 of 4 people found this review helpful.

I used that heading because its true, Nows the Time for Doom 3 its at a lower price now & the pc specs needed to run it arent high really at all by todays standard.
Minimum as stated on the box are P4 1.5ghz Amd 1500+ 384mb ram.
I recomend not bothering if you dont have a 2ghzCPU 1gigRam 128mbVideo card or better.

I played this on a meager 3ghz(P4) system with 1gb of ram & a 128Geforce 6600 it ran smooth all the time. Thats not a great system on todays standards by any means.
You need windows Xp or 2000 to run the game.
Note: This game doesnt support windows 95,98 or NT & im not sure about Vista.

The game has the ground setting graphics youve heard about. (including in most every review here..)
A good story line & plenty of action. Its a nice & Scary game!
Many people complain about the game being dark & theres a simple solution for that, (heres what i did)
Try pressing Ctrl & alt(~) at the same time to bring up the console then type in these two commands,
r_gamma 3
r_brightness 0

This will have a nice brightening effect that wont degrade the graphics in the process.
Note these settings worked for the Resurrection of Evil Doom3 expansion as well.
So that takes away the most common complaint(too dark) people tend to have about Doom 3.
Now the game is still pretty scary but you get to see those great looking monsters that are trying to kill you.
Its good to have a pc there are no console commands for the console(xbox) version of the game.)
If you decide you prefer the game the way it looked originally then you can set the gamma & brightness back to the original setting by using these commands,
r_gamma 1
r_brightness 1

If your computer is weak you may want to try this console command.
Try pressing Ctrl & alt(~) at the same time to bring up the console then type in this command,
seta g_showPlayerShadow "0" <- player shadows off

This may help to get the game running a bit smoother & you will likely not see any difference in the graphics except in the video sequences.
To put it back to the default setting type (in console)
seta g_showPlayerShadow "1" <- player shadows on

If it still doesnt run good enough you can find many performance commands online, do a internet search for Doom 3 performance or Doom 3 tweaks.

For you Classic Doom fans Try doing a net search for a Mod called "Doom 3 Classic" Its a wonderful (free) remake of the Original Dooms first 20ish levels of "knee deep in the dead" using the Doom 3 engine for graphics!
I used one of the lighting commands listed above on this mod as well.
You'll be surprised at how nice free can be!

Its awsome Thanks to a development team called "Flaming Sheep software Team"
You guys did a fantastic job Thanks!

Note you must have a retail version of Doom 3 to play D3 classic.
This mod makes Doom3 an even better Deal.
DOOM 3 is a bargain at todays prices, as is the Resurrection of Evil the Doom3 expansion.
Both are high quality moderate spec big budget productions!
This beats most si-fi horror movies.
Great graphics, Cool stories with moderate specs & Pricing NOW IS THE TIME FOR DOOM 3 on pc!

I want to thanks all at Id software for thier consistent ground breaking & standard setting in the game industry!

Pick up a copy of Doom 3 if you like si-fi, Horror or FPS! Its a Best Buy Deal!
Thanks & have Fun,if this was any help vote yes.

By now everybody who would play a game like this has already. Even so, I'll throw my 2 cents in.

This is an awesome game. When it came out in 2004 it was revolutionary. Even now in 2009 there are some things about it that are really outstanding, namely the atmospherics. The ambient sounds, sights, shadowing, are all top notch. The goal was to create a frightening game. Mission accomplished. I'm not frightened by anything any more, but when I play this I'm very tense and am often startled. Things like, "Whoa! Where'd that zombie come from!" are frequently being uttered. Awesome single player game. Very engrossing.

That being said, some of the things compared to what fps games are like today are "old." Rocket and grenade explosions resemble cherry bombs, both visually and aurally. When it comes to movement the person you play as has leaden feet. There is no way to effectively dodge attacks, and movement is slow. You can see an attack coming and you are mostly powerless to avoid it. It's kind of like, "well, here it comes...." BOOM. Dead.

While I like having a whole bunch of weapons available, it is unrealistic to think anyone could carry an rpg, plasma gun, machine gun, mini gun, grenades, pistol, etc., etc., etc. It would be more challenging if you could only carry 2 weapons besides your piston and a handful of 'nades. You'd constantly have to be deciding what to drop and pick up. I'd like that. I find whenever I play a fps I start to favor one particular weapon. In D3 my "go to" weapon is the shotgun. There is a LOT of close quartered combat and this weapon is deadly up close in D3. But with so many weaps to choose from I never have to lay down my shotty. I'd like the extra challenge of having to CHOOSE which weaps to take along.

I give this game a "Good" rating simply because it is not 2009 and so many other fps's since 2004 have upped the ante. If I were writing this in 2004, this would get an "Excellent". At that time, this game was arguably the best fps for PC that you could purchase.

I am not a big gammer, but I enjoy shooter games. I bought the game because, it was a great game from what I heard, and also gave me options to play as a single player or go online and play with other people. Great game. nittz66

The Best Game I've Ever Played
Review created: 01/05/06
2 of 2 people found this review helpful.

This is by far the most exhilaratingly fun game I have ever played. From beginning to end every turn was a surprise. I especially liked the 'big' monster's that one had to contend with at several points in the game. The most fun about them was finding out how to kill them!

The graphics are top notch, especially when one plays on high or ultra quality. You definately need a powerful PC to enjoy this game in all it's glory but a lower end system would definately suffice for minimal settings, which I imagine also pretty good!

The range of weapons provided are a great blend and accomodate for killing all types of monsters. My favorite is the shotgun because of the satisfaction of demoloshing a monster when I use it.

The only things I would change about this game is have a greater variety of monsters, and have them randomly generated (which I thought was going to be a feature in this game).

Overall I would not hesitate to recommend this game to anyone who is looking for a fun and graphically innovative FPS. I would not, however, recommend to someone who is unfamiliar with playing FPS as it does not give many instructions on how to play.

I think this is one of the scariest games around. Like a lot of people, I think having to switching to the flashlight gets annoying. But there are duct tape mods to help with that. Anyways, I bought a few copies of this to play on a LAN I have set up in my house. There's not many options for games in multiplayer mode but it's nice enough for a different deathmatch game. The graphics are great and along with the sound effects, the singleplayer game can startle you a time or two or three. And it's fun to have to have friends come over and play a few rounds of DOOM 3, FarCry and Halo.

This is a great game! I've played it a couple of times and ended up damaging my original disk-1, so I purchased it again off eBay. Every time I play this game, it still scares the heck out of me at times. Best when played in the dark on the toughest setting. The only downfall for some people is that it requires a very good graphics card and computer system. It runs smooth on my system and I've really enjoyed the game.

Excellent game, horror creeping around every corner, be sure to turn up the gamma on your screen so you can see better in the dark. You can only carry a flash-light or gun, not both, that's the only thing I didn't like; even though I had tried the "duct tape" hack that mounted the flash-light to the weapon. But when I did a patch upgrade it knocked it out, Oh well I still had a great time killin' baddies. The boss at the end was nearly impossible to defeat. Cool puzzles in some areas, trying to figure out which way to go next.

Doom 3: Play it with the lights off.
Review created: 05/14/09

Doom 3 is one of those great horror games that I always remebered playing when I was younger. It had the monsters, the cheap scares, everything that made a great horror game good. And it did it right with a creepy atmosphere, great controls, and an amazing variety of monsters. The weapons, while some might be generic, are great fun to use, and when you finally get your hands on the BFG and the Soul Cube, the game really picks up.

I personally enjoyed Doom 3 from beginning to end. The only problem I had with the game was the ending, but that problem could be solved by buying the expansion pack, Resurrection of Evil. Playing Doom 3 was creepy from the moment you land on Mars to the conclusion where you think the threat is over.

  Doom is scary action fun!
Review created: 04/16/09
by:

If you like games in the horror-action genre and you haven't yet played Doom 3, this is a bargain gem! Doom 3 does a superb job of bringing the Space Marine and Mars colony to life. It is both creepy and exciting. The enemies from Doom 1 and Doom 2 that used to be pixelated cartoon characters are now hard core science fiction horrors. From the very first zombie to the final conflict, Doom 3 is an adrenaline infused, non-stop, steam-roller of a game. The graphics were ahead of their time and even at over 4 years old, still look amazing. There is over 10 hours of mission time and that doesn't include multiplayer. I definitely recommend this game if you are a fan of more modern games such as Bioshock or Half-Life 2.
