Don't Go Shopping for Hair-Care Products Without Me by Paula Begoun, Stephanie (DRT) Parsons (2004, Paperback)

I know that there may be an updated version of this book by now, but I thoroughly enjoyed reading it. Parsons takes the time to explain what the various ingredients in hair-care products are, and what they do.

I was surprised to find out that in some cases, the very expensive conditioners are really no better than the more affordable ones.

The book was easy to navigate, with a host of information that even someone without a chemistry can understand.

The only downside (for me) was that I wish this book had an index and perhaps a glossary of the basic ingredients in the products.

Very Very Good Book!

Found her other books very informative and so is this one! Read it with an open mind and you will learn alot.

Like: This book contains all sorts of factual information about hair, hair products, and the hair industry. It is a fantastic reference guide. Due to all of this, the book allowed me to feel less overwhelmed by the plethora of products for sale.

Dislike: Slightly weak organization; no index; no glossary; author contradicts herself at times; sometimes the writing is convoluted (for example, the section on differentiating hair brushes was hard to follow); product reviews are very brief; this edition is from 2004 and there are many products (and some brands) that are not listed as they were released after publishing.

Why I decided to buy it: I wanted to have access to truthful information about hair without the hype and foolery contained in fashion magazines.
