Keith Whitley's third solo album, DON"T CLOSE YOUR EYES, finds the bluegrass ace-turned-contemporary country singer further refining his new traditionalist sound. Featuring three country chart-topping singles, this is the record that established the Kentucky native as a commercial force with which to be reckoned. Sonically similar to his previous album, L.A. TO MIAMI, the disc is slightly rougher around the edges production-wise. As always, Whitley's gorgeous beers `n' tears voice is at the forefront, making weepers like "Would These Arms Be In Your Way" and the Lefty Frizzell classic "I Never Go Around Mirrors" particularly heart-wrenching.
