Domiknitrix by Jennifer Stafford (2006, Paperback)

From the faux-leather covers to the patterns within, this is a darn good buy for the knitting library.

The domiKNITrix covers a lot of techniques from beginning to advanced, with full-color picture to walk you through them. So if you've been fearing, say, intarsia, there's now a way to do it and see someone else do it along with you, which is incredibly valuable.

The patterns are amazing. Stuff you'd actually want to make and use as a young knitter (I'd say twenties to thirties or so...). Stuff that doesn't look like anything else you've seen and might be actually useful, which is nice, too.

But best of all is the way the author leads by example. She empowers knitters to rise up and take back their knitting -- using the techniques she teaches to create their own stunning works of fibery artsy goodness for themselves, and to be a strong knitter.

It's worth every penny of the purchase price, and more.

The patterns are so much fun and great for those of us who live a little bit of a different lifestyle!

This is an excellent book, recommended for the novice all the way up to the most vetern knitters, covering even the most complex of stitches, with easy to understand explainations. With a twinge of tongue in cheek humor in every page, reading this book is no where near the boring, as some knitting books can sometimes be. Warning: Most of these patterns are challenging at best, and not for the knitter faint at heart, with satifying and beautiful results if you are the knitter who loves a good challenge. I have learned much from Jennifer Stafford, who has made me the believer of the swatch test.

I borrowed this book from our local library, and I've renewed it so many times that finally I HAD to buy the book. Easy explanations, very good descriptions, leaving no questions unanswered, this author goes into the knit picking details of knitting. This book is better than most of the how-to knitting guides I've run into. (My local library has about 150 of them.)

Spontaneous purchase -- haven't really used any of the patterns yet although they appear to be quite interesting.

I saw this book on an early morning program on HGTV that was all about knitting. They made the snow devil hat and I decided that I must have one of my own. When I got the book I could knit a basic stitch. I couldn't even purl! And I'm a lefty so I'm hard to teach. Within a month of buying the book and trying out the techniques I had made the mohawk hat and I'm working on the snow devil now. Ms. Stafford explains things thoroughly and gives great step by step instructions in her patterns. The hats, scarves, hoodies and other cool clothing and accessories are unique and fun, and the quality of the items is really outstanding. The only draw back is, your friends will be lining up to ask you to make them stuff. Happy knitting!

Absolutely amazing book for the person who wants a new spin on knitting! The items are trendy and fun and especially appealing to the younger persons on your gift list. I ended up with a mile long wishlist for next Xmas and upcoming birhdays for items (mohawk, jughead hat, wolf intarsia sweater etc.)! A must have for those who want to learn new techniques for their knitting. Just like the subtitle says: "whip your knitting into shape".
