Dogfights: The Complete Season One (DVD, 2007)

I love this show, having seen bits and pieces at different times I had to buy the DVD set. What irks me a little is the constant review after each commercial break. It's as if the producers didn't have enough material to fill a show and do the "replays" to fill space. Computer graphics should be cheap enough by now that they could afford to do more with their budget. The show is successful enough they should be able to call the shots with the network.
The graphics are stellar IMHO, and add to the realism, the side by side comparisons of aircraft are a great learning tool for the history buffs.
Two of the best episodes are the Stories regarding the Bismark and the Yamato battles, funny thing since they really aren't dogfights.
I will keep buying the series as long as it is produced,my complaints are minor, so if this subject interests you, look for deals because they are out there, you'll be glad you did.

This is some righteous stuff! "Dogfights" is the best cartoon series currently on TeeVee! Since there weren't camera crews at "Operation Bolo" or with Alex Vraciu over Truk lagoon, so it's a good thing we have "Digital Ranch" to re-create these dogfights, well, digitally. Each episode does incorporate contemporary film footage, mainly to lend background to the 'planes and pilots depicted but the star of each episode is the computer animation. It's quite breathtaking and in every case better than the dowdy old film footage they have as back-up. Too bad it's crowded with inaccuracies: the 50 star flags snaping smartly in the breeze on WWII USN Destroyers, the backwards, then forwards, then backwards, etc. landing gear on Eddie Rickenbacker's SPAD XIII, the counter-balances on the horizontal stabilizer not the elevators on the P-38s, and other visuals, that and mis-pronounced names of aircraft and pilots. No one cares, though, it's all so breathtaking! I know I'll watch it again and again and will be right at the front of the line when season two comes out!

This is a great program, especially for airplane enthusiasts! An awesome perspective on aerial combat, with computer animated graphics that are very impressive. There is no other program or series out there like it. I am addicted.

From WW I biplanes where the first plane-to-plane battles were started, to the air dominance of Israeli F-15s in the '80's, anyone who loves fighter planes will love this. Historic air battles from WW I, WW II, Korea, Viet Nam and the Middle East are represented. I loved the TV series and was glad to get the first season on DVD. The computer animation is state of the art, the facts are accurate and the historic dog fights are very well done. While I had a bit of difficulty understanding the inclusion of the sinking of a battleship in this series, it still showed the power and importance of air power.

I look forward to season two!

Good, we have watched it every day for 3 months. Wish we were there.

Excellent DVD. My son and I love watching Dogfights on the History channel. Now we can watch it whenever we want. Well worth the price and a great gift for any aviation enthusiast.

Bought it as a gift for an aviation enthusiast friend. I saw the series on History Channel and loved the graphics and narration by the pilots.

I love this series and watch it anytime it is on. One of the most visually stunning war tv series i have ever watched. I wanted to own it so i could watch it anytime.

one of the best shows on the history channel. it give avery good look at what it was like for some our people in world war 2. it gives very good insight into what happened, how the pilots felt. what they were thinking. very good show. wish they would show aces from the other side also. look ito what it was like to fly an me262, and so forth and so on. If you like airplane combat this is for you. This ceres takes some of the better known fights from past battles and shows them in video game animation style. If you like history this is a good series to have. Their is some great commentary as well on this set. I really injoyed watching it.

This show ROCKS!!! I love it and can't wait for season 2 to come out. This show is great if you like dogfights and ariel combat of WW1-modern planes. Excellent graphics and narriation. Exciting and historical at the same time. A MUST SEE!!

Great set of DVDs. Full of interesting history of the World War Two pilots and there brush with death. Bought of of ebay as it was a cheaper way to go and get the same outstanding DVD as bought in the store. There are no dislikes at this time. Very good deals and very good people and great service. I loved the show but hated the commercials so I bought the disks. And I am glad I did because the computer graphics layout with clarity the aerial conflicts of the past where the gun cameras can't take you. With the men involved taking you through the hardships of war, you get the 360 on their world. Their action has kept us free. Steve LaLonde

This is an EXCELLENT DVD set for anyone who is interested in Air to Air combat and having all the maneuver's shown in detail. With the actual Pilots describing their tactics for that engagement, the computer graphics and relevant film footage, you are (as the opening sequence states) in the cockpit.

The coputer generated images as well as the actual film footage and photos make this series a must for those who like airplanes and histical battles.

Very detailed World War 2 Combat fighters, and the Pilots. I watched part of the series on the History channel. Dishnetwork was not good reception and I missed most of the program. So I decided to purchase the complete program DVD from EBAY. What a pleasant surprise. NO commercials or interruptions. Thank you!!

FIRST OF ALL, I HAVE ALWAYS BEEN A WWII AIR WAR BUFF. THE ANIMATION OF THESE PLANES DOING THEIR THING IS UNBELIEVABLE. ALSO, THE REAL PILOTS OF THESE EPIC BATTLES DOING SOME OF THE NARRATION IS INCREDIBLE. This is a great idea! Using computer generated graphics to portray air battles. The graphics are good (season2 is even better!) and the story telling and detailed descriptions of the maneuvers and flight techniques are good basic training for us armchair pilots. Don't quite know how the sinking of the Bismark qualifies as a dogfight, a term used to describe air battles (yeah, I know that the torpedo planes had a lot to do with it, but still...)

The second season is running sporadically on the history channel and is worth watching. But buy the boxed set. Its always better without the commercials!
