Dog Whisperer with Cesar Millan: The Complete First Season (DVD, 2006)

I think this is the best, most practical series on understanding dogs and what they need to behave well that I have ever seen. I love the hands on case histories and the simplicity of the instruction. They work! I bought this set for my best friend and animal lover, Ruth, so she could enjoy this series also. As she doesnt have access to The TV show.

I purchased this set for reference to help training my new puppy which I will get in a few weeks. This deals with real world problems and I thought it would help. The situations shown are sometimes extreme and you learn how to avoid those by training yor dog properly. Great insights into dog behavior and how our behavior communicates things we sometimes do not want to our dogs. It helps you see the importance of socialization of your dog; what can happen if you don't and that your dog sees you as part of their pack.

Highly recommended to anyone who is trying to train their dog.

Cesar demonstrates with every dog -- exercise, discipline, affection -- are what they need to be a calm submissive dog with a calm assertive human. Cesar communicates "dog psychology" -- the dog NEEDS a "pack leader". It is the same with ALL of them. Pack leader takes dog for walk -- not the other way around. An excellent, informative, entertaining, inspiring dvd of the season WITHOUT commercials. Someone told me about th Dog Whisperer, but I don't get TV, so I was thrilled to find this on eBay and I LOVE Cesar Millan.

Everything about this set is excellent. Any problem you do have with a dog it covers it in this season. Cesar makes alot of sense and just gets you thinking as a dog owner on what you are doing wrong without you even thinking that you are doing something wrong, thinking that your doing good for your pet. I do have a American staffordshire / pitbull and doing things to her that Cesar has shown on the dvd's has worked fantastic. I also agree with Cesar in the Pitbull breed they are very misjudged and its the owners that make the breed a dangerous one as any other breed can be the same way if taught that way. Again i love the set and i would recommend it to anyone with a dog/s.

Cesar Millan is truly amazing. He has a complete knowledge of dog behavior and dog psychology. What you will learn is that you, the owner, must change in order to get your dog to change. We are the cause the dog's problems! I now see the error of my ways and why it affects the dog's behavior. A "must own" DVD set for any dog owner. I watch my neighbors walk their dogs and virtually all of them do it wrong - just like I did. Fun to watch even if you have a well-behaved dog.

I don't own a dog, but saw the show and wanted to see more. It is enlightening to see how Cesar exposes the truth of the owner's behavior and the dog's reaction. Then, to see the transformation that takes place in both of them is just brilliant! It exposes the narcissistic ways of being, and helps foster change for the sake of the relationship, also, so no one (especially the dog) doesn't have to suffer.

In these DVD's of the first season, Cesar trains dog after dog, problem after problem with simple, clear and easy steps. If you have a dog with any behavior issues, this is the information you need. Cesar concentrates on adult dogs from simple to very severe problems; and his technique is easy to follow and it is very successful within minutes. The dogs are never yelled at, hit, etc. Simply amazing. These shows are not only informational, but very entertaining. They are hard to turn off - you will want to watch show after show! Cesar Millan is very entertaining and clearly THE expert (others call themselves 'the dog whisperer' but you must make sure it is really Cesar Millan). Worth every penny : )

When I heard about this guy, I thought it was a crock! I train dogs and a new DVD shows up every day. Millan gets it! If you just watch the first 2 DVDs (of the 4) you and your dog will be more relaxed. Anyone that owns a dog (good or bad) NEEDS to see this stuff. Like rolling off a wall!

I looked at the first two dvds and implemented Cesar's technics and they actually worked. My German Shepherd pupppy chases his tail and is very aggressive towards dogs. We implemented some of his technics and they appear to work. We just have to be persistent. Excellent dvds. Cheaper than a trainer.

Can't get enough about the Dog Whisper! I learn so much about training myself to be a good pack leader. I plan to buy all the seasons.

I love Cesar, he is the best. Anyone who owns a dog should watch this DVD. It shows the mistakes everyone makes with man's best friend. Each episode is entertaining and eye opening. I recommend it highly for people who own dogs, work with dogs, are thinking about owning a dog or for anyone who knows a dog.

this product is a great tool for teaching people how to work with animals. we employ many city kids to work around dogs, and find cesar's videos very helpful

There's a wealth of knowledge about dogs to be learned.
Worth watching more than once and loaning out. I decided to buy it because
of seeing several later shows on TV. Worthwhile purchase.

Cesar is an amazing man, He will be the master of stopping abuse to dogs. His method is so wonderful, and easy to apply. He is very good with the people and the dogs. I wonder if he was reincarnated as a pack leader. He seems to know what to do in any situation. All of his videos are extreamly helpful. I highly recomend any one of them. I am training my choc. lab

I like the way the information is presented with Cesar being able to train the owner instead of just working with the dog. After watching just 5 espisodes of his show, my husband has re-educated our two very spoiled dogs. Cesar has a very common sense approach in explaining dog behavior and the mistakes that humans make in dealing with their beloved pets.

This collection of Cesar Milan's Dog Whisperer episodes,is a wonderful investment to anyone owning or planning to own a dog.The shows have great information on proper human reactions to the behavior of our furry friends.Cesar has a true Gift and with his guidance, helps the owners understand how to turn around a bad situation.The shows are very entertaining and this collection would be a wonderful reference gift.

The dvd's are engaging and educational from the moment you turn them on. Ceasar Milan is genuine and down to earth in his common sense approach to working with dogs. I wish that we could have had this information many dogs ago!

I LOVE this show, but cannot get it where I live! So I bought the first season on DVD so that I can see all the shows I missed. After I watch it, I plan to share it with my sister and her husband, who recently adopted a puppy.

Cesar Milan is amazing with dogs, and I have read his book. VERY informative.

It works!!! Each training technique seems so logical. We have a new puppy, and...so far so good! Even older dogs can learn to behave better.

I have been watching Cesar Milan since the program began, on National Geographic TV channel. I now have emphysema and could not walk dog as needed. I gave him to a workmate, but not before ordering the Cesar Milan DVD. A great move! Both Deacon (the dog, a Schnoodle) and workmate are completely happy and satisfied.

I would recommend this DVD to ANYONE who owns dog(s) or is planning on adopting. The wealth of information is unbelievable...

I bought this DVD knowing it would probably be a good choice because I watch Cesar's show on National Geographic Channel. This DVD was better than I had anticipated. I love the way Mr. Millan helps others with his knowledge and witty advise. He has such GREAT insight to the canine world. He is a gift to us dog lovers. He has helped me tremendously with this DVD. My dogs are much happier too !

Cesar's critics take offense at many things, not the least of which is his mantra "Exercise, Discipline, Affection". I have found most critics have not taken the time to watch very much of him, and what they do see is viewed from a negative perspective, NOT with an open mind. In other words, they've "heard" things about hiim, & are expecting to see things they don't like. For starters, his "discipline" is not about punishing unwanted behavior; it is about the self-discipline type. He has a very 'zen' outlook (even had a large Buddha in his Dog Psychology Center), and knows that a disciplined mind is a valuable thing. That is what he asks dogs to do- to use their minds, exert some self control (something that many positive trainers advocate). The "corrections" he does use are very fair (the dog understands why it happened, AND how to avoid it), and given only to a level that a particular dog needs at that moment to redirect it's mind. Which leads me to the semantics of "correction" vs "punishment". Many say they are the same, I feel there are crucial differences. A dog who is punished does not always understand why. A correction makes it clear to the dog through timing and the information delivered that you do not like that behavior. By far the majority of Cesar's corrections are mild, & serve to redirect the dog from continuing down the road they are going (which is inevitably the "wrong" one. Most people wait until a dog is into 4th gear before they try to stop them.
If you are interested in dog behavior & how dogs think, and how to better communicate with your dog, study Cesar. Don't just watch & pick every third sentence; listen to the whole explanation, over & over if you have to, till you get it. Just because he doesn't have an advanced degree is no reason to write him off; we can always go too far, and many in dog training can't seem to use the brain in their head to learn what is right in front of them. Not unless it has "scientific" study behind it. Well, several points that science had previously told us about how dogs learn are now being questioned. I'm all for studying, observing, learning; but we need to remember that it isn't only the PhD's that can teach us.
I have been training dogs for over 25 years, can read dogs quite well, and work successfully with "difficult" breeds; I utilize operant conditioning (clicker training), as well as corrections (yes, you can use both!); Cesar Millan has taught me some major concepts that have taken my training to a new level.
