Movie Description
In DODGEBALL: A TRUE UNDERDOG STORY, Ben Stiller and Vince Vaughn team up once again (following STARSKY & HUTCH) for another comic romp. While hilariously satirizing modern-day gym culture, the film also celebrates a sport that has previously been relegated to the elementary school playground. Peter La Fleur (Vaughn) owns the decrepit Average Joe's gym, which has been losing its clients ever since the glitzy Globo Gym opened up across the street. White Goodman (Stiller), Globo Gym's main spokesman, is a preposterously vain egomaniac on the cusp of taking over La Fleur's failing business. La Fleur learns from a beautiful attorney (Christine Taylor) that if he doesn't come up with $50,000 in 30 days, his career running a gym will be over. Potential salvation arrives in the form of a Las Vegas dodgeball tournament, but conquering a sport one hasn't played in several decades isn't such an easy feat. Fortunately for Peter, he finds a coach for his team: the hardheaded, ex-superstar Patches O'Houlihan (Rip Torn). As Peter and his ragtag team make their way to the championship in Las Vegas, they must contend with White, who has assembled a team of his very own. Rawson Marshall Thurber's debut feature is a highly assured work, which features hilarious cameos from Chuck Norris, Lance Armstrong, David Hasselhoff, and William Shatner.

Editorial Reviews
"Nobody eviscerates the scary depths of male narcissism with such ferocity, and it is a huge relief to find Mr. Stiller flexing his oiled, low-comedy triceps with such vengeful glee....Consistently funny..."
New York Times - Stephen Holden (06/18/2004)

"[A] slaphappy send-up of the whole sniffly underdog sports-movie genre, written and directed with a changeup pitch of whizzy aggression and bouncy merriness..."
Entertainment Weekly - Lisa Schwarzbaum (07/09/2004)

"Superb performances from the deadpan Vaughn and the fearless Stiller in one of the funniest films of the year."
Uncut - Andrew Sumner (09/01/2004)

"Vaughn recalls the seemingly effortless shtick Bill Murray trades on, and the unruffled sense of amiability he maintains, even during the daftest bits of knockabout, is the movie's chief pleasure."

    Dodgeball

Stiller, Vaughn, Long, Taylor, and Torn are just a few of the stars in this movie that help it shine.

Guest spots by Chuck Norris, Lance Armstrong, Bill Shatner, and David Hasselhoff are among the funniest scenes Dodgeball has to offer.

The story is great, the acting is great, the laughs are continuos, and there isn't a 5 minute span where you won't be falling out of your seat or breaking a rib laughing so hard!!!

    Final Verdict:

    6/5

Rent or Buy?: One of the funniest movies ever made, that has a replay value of 2,000,000%. This movie is a definite must buy!!!

      Silly, funny, great comedy movie!!

Dodgeball...always has been a kinda offbeat dorky game....and indeed maybe the game of underdogs...but can these particular underdogs overcome this to become champions...well , this we will see in this funny entertaining movie featuring the likes of Vince Vaughn - who is quickly becoming a master at these silly, quirky comedy collections - think Old School and the Wedding Crashers; also Ben Stiller, his wife Christine Taylor, Rip Torn and even a cameo from Lance Armstrong!!
Vince Vaughn owns a gym - Average Joe's - that is neither successful at improving bodies or indeed making money; and this would continue this way until Vaughn finds he is near bankruptcy and facing closure - the only way he can save the gym is to make enough money to pay off his debts, and save for a very funny and unsuccessful attempt at car washing for payment - the only other alternative is to enter and win the World DodgeBall championships. Something Vaughn and his band of merry geeks know nothing about!
He also has to compete against arch enemy White Goodman - played by Stiller, who owns a gym empire and plans to take over Average Joes. White is a slimy bully with an ego tht exceeds the size of his gymnasium empire: Stiller has to be commended on creating such a character through his acting!
Both men have teams in the Dodgeball competition, so it does not take a genius to figure out that somehow they will both make it through to the finals in which they end up competing for the title. Though that said, there are enough twists in the plot as well as humor to keep you thoroughly engaged - Jason Bateman also adds to the humor as the most ridiculous announcer for the televised version of the Dodgeball finals!
This is a great movie with some absurd characters and over the top acting - which works well in relation to the genre of the film and general premise of the movie! It is ideal for fans of other similar offering such as Old School, Anchorman and 40 year old virgin; and has a well deserved place in our movie collection!
