I'm almost tempted to believe that Divine Divinity was divinely inspired. This is probably one of the more addictive and fun single person RPG's available. Period.
As a D&D player and Game Master for several years, I highly recommend Divine Divinity to anyone that wants the same kind of "feel" as tabletop games.

Although there are only three character types (Fighter, Mage, and "Survivor" [or "Thief" if you prefer]) you can choose to be either a female character or a male character, making six choices altogether. Each has its own advantages and disadvantages.

Once you have this simple decision made, you are thrust into a vast world that you have to find out about before you can solve all the possible quests. I have a list of over 27 pages of quests and sub-quests so far, and I may not have discovered them all. This world is absolutely =huge= for a computer RPG. The graphics are great, although a little resource intensive. The game recommends a 450mhz computer with 128MB of RAM, (256 is "recommended"), a DirectX 8 compliant video card with at least 8MB of memory, an 800x600 monitor, and a few other features, as well as the most important item - 2.5 GIGS of free Hard Drive space. I suspect you should at least think about doubling =all= of that. But it's worth it. I've played for about 200 hours of game time now, and still haven't found everything I need to complete some of the quests. I find my knowledge of RPG's invaluable. I can't wait until I get to the end - and I have no idea where that is. People, this game hardly got anywhere near the advertising that it deserved. Most people are discovering it by word of mouth. And this review is here to help you decide to try it. If you are into computer RPG's at all, I think it's worth buying.

I thourhly enjoyed this game. I too read about it in PC gamer and found out that it truly was an underrated gem. Massive amount of quests to preform. Decent character development aa well as magic spells. If you enjoy RPG's in the style of Diablo 1 and 2 you will deffinitly like this game.

Excellent role playing PC game. Grossly undermarketed when it was originally released. I bought because of a recommendation in PC Gamer magazine.

If you are looking for the best out of all rpg's on the PC, go no further than Divine Divinity. A solid game combining elements from the best that the genre has to offer. The game somehow slipped under the radar among so many three star titles, but this one is five all the way with a well placed story, plot driven characters, well balanced magic system, and the ability to really shape your own destiny in the game, (unlike those other games that "promise" you this ability but never actually deliver on the goods). Bottom line: If your looking for that rare rpg experience, and have enjoyed titles such as Baldur's gate, Fallout, Oblivion, or Diablo 2, then pick up this title. You will be glad you did!

  Solid game, somewhat buggy

I first learned abput this game when I saw that it was near the list of top CRPGs on one of my favorite review websites. I figured that it would be able to provide me a few thrills for a low price. After playing through it, I have to say that there are more than just a few thrills. The game plays like a mix of Diablo-esque combat and Ultima's quest options. There are only three classes: the warrior, the mage, and the survivor(basically the thief). However, each class has a male and a female version, which have slightly different starting stats and can play out in different ways from their counterparts. From the get-go, the quests in the game are anything but repetative. Dying in the game is a pain, as your character just lays there until you press Esc to go back to the load menu.Saving often is extremly recommended The graphics are solid for the time this game was made, and for the small team that developed it. The sound is simply brilliant, and the voiceovers are exceptionally well done.
Now to my only major qualm with the game. It does not work well when played on a Window's XP system. The game would crash about 3 times an hour.
Overall, an exceptional game, but to get the most enjoyment out of it, you may have to play it on something other than Window's xp.

  Very disappointing...

The graphics were awful, and the storyline was worse. I was expecting a decent game since it was rated one of the top 10 games, but I was sorely disappointed. I know it is an older game so obviously I should expect bad graphics, but really there was nothing good about this game. I tried it, and kept trying, thinking maybe it would get better...but hope never came.
