Quite different but a step up.

Discovery is much different than Daft Punk's first album, "Homework". They step away from club style trance/rave beats and play more developed songs. The first track "One More Time" sets off the cd great. The next 3 songs continue to jam and in my opinion are the best songs on the cd. They mix electronic music in a way that, to my ears, is awesome. The cd continues with a few songs that sound a lot closer to songs on "Homework" then grooves into "Something About You". On the whole this cd is good and I think is better than "Homework" but it is a totally different sound. I don't like some of the middle songs, they seem repetitive and kind of boring, it seems to kind of drag along. 4/5

 Great CD
Review created: 11/03/08

I used to have this CD, but it has mysteriously gone missing, and lately I have been wanting to listen to it. I miss the fun songs that this CD has to offer, and now that I own it again, I'll be able to enjoy it once more.

I recently bought a cd of Daft Punk's "Discovery" on Ebay. It was a used cd that actually came with a card that you could access bonus stuff on their website with. It's a great album. It's a blend of techno, disco, soul and straight-up pop. This is generally considered their best work, and it's hard to disagree. The album is rollicking blend through and through. Great production, dancey beats and an understated minimalism blend to create an unusually transcendent listening experience. Thumbs up for French duos!

 Daft Punk Music CD
Review created: 02/08/08

I purchased this cd because my grandson likes techno music and he mentioned this particular title. I cannot really rate the quality of this type of music because I am not personnally familiar with it. As far as the price, shipping, and quality of the CD, I have no complaints at all. The seller was very prompt in shipping and the item was in perfect condition.

 Daft Punk - Discovery

A great, mostly easy listening techno-pop CD based around musical hooks that use elements of rock music mixed in it to give it a fresh twist.

 Funky, punky joy!
Review created: 06/01/06

I bought this album because I had heard the first track in TV ads and really liked it. I also learned that Madonna was somewhat influenced by the band on her latest, greatest dance album, "Confessions on a Dancefloor." This album is fantastic, funky, punky joy! It has an electronic energy and rhythm that will make you dance or just lift your spirits. It's great background music for driving or even having guests over on a Friday night. I highly recommend it and will be adding more Daft Punk albums to my collection soon!

It s danceable doable dynamic delightful daft punk.

Pros:
Some of the songs are like a fresh pack of crayons!

Cons:
A few mediocre cuts.

One again, it s your dazzling House Music Reviewer and DJ descending down from the clouds of his bedroom system delivering the goods on a dynamic group that s changed clubs and dance halls through out America and the UK. daft punk shakes off the label of Britpop on this CD titled Discovery. If you want to place daft punk into a specific genre it s going to be hard since their music is diverse and at times experimental, bordering on soul, jazz, disco and pop, but ultimately it's House Music at it's best. I m sure you ll enjoy the masked men behind daft punk are Guy-Manuel de Homem Christo and..

 Waging war against "Freedom Fries"
Review created: 04/28/03

Pros:
Lots of very danceable numbers

Cons:
A few uneven tracks

Over the last few months in the United States, there has been an intense backlash toward the French with regard to the Iraq situation. While always a popular punching bag of the U.S. and England, France has been particularly harshly regarded by the American press, and various industries, most notably the restaurant industry. Steakhouses flush French wine and Champagne down the toilet. French restaurants note a substantial decline in business. And, harkening back to the days of World War II, businesses are changing names of foods like french fries to "Freedom Fries" (never mind most historians.

Escape To The Electronic Manga Bliss of Daft Punk s Discovery
Review created: 10/06/02
by: moonwalker84 -- a member of Epinions

Pros:
Total electronic bliss. Aural paradise from Japan.

Cons:
The tracks Too Long and Veridis Quo.

Last year, I bought this album with money from Birthday , largely on the back of the single One More Time. I put it in, and when Aerodynamic came on, I was disgusted, and all but discarded the album. I began to regret my purchase, and a younger, ignorant, hyperactive me got the money back several days later. Now, I see the foolish error of my ways. How could I possibly hate this album? Discovery, the 2001 effort from the French duo Daft Punk, is surely one of the best albums of that year. There is a Japanese, manga-ish air to everything, a whole new world you re transported to upon listening,.

Not the Essential Daft Punk disc, but worthy for dance quotient
Review created: 12/07/02
by: garethusa -- a member of Epinions

Pros:
French europop released in USA, Looped grooves that work most of the time

Cons:
Released on Virgin Records, who don't promote/market well; Repetitive, if you don't like that
I discovered Daft Punk, a french techno/electronica/loungy pop group, way after their groundbreaking album HOMEWORK was released, right about the time that DISCOVERY was getting its press junket going with reviews. Because I fell in love with the classic "Around the World," "Teachers," and "Phoenix" from the previous album, I was ready to own my first Daft Punk disc, DISCOVERY (2001). What is in DISCOVERY: Tracks: One More Time Aerodynamic Digital Love Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger Crescendolls Nightvision Superheroes High Life Something About Us Voyager Veridis Quo Short Circuit Face To...

Forging the Future from the Remnants of the Past
Review created: 04/23/01
by: Pyanfar -- a member of Epinions

Pros:
Artsy retro-sound with high-quality attention to detail; obvious hat-tipping to Electronic Music pioneers

Cons:
Repetitive; Some sounds deliberately mastered with cheesy muted disco-quality

Discovery is the latest album from electronica duo Daft Punk, following up on the often-imitated, moderately-successful album Homework. However, the resemblance ends there; this is a new creature, and something to be looked at in a new context. That said, Daft Punk is not for everybody; this time around, there will be those who totally love this album and those who hate it. At this point I'm fence-sitting, but I have a feeling this album will really grow on me long before it annoys me. First, the background: Daft Punk have made the outrageous claim that an accident in the recording studio has.
