Album Notes
Reissued in 1999, this is a five-song explosion of psychedelic improvisational rock by this high-energy Japanese trio consisting of guitarist Asahito Nanjo, bassist Munehiro Narita, and a revolving set of drummers. On DISALLOW High Rise exudes sonic outrage reminiscent of '60s psychedelic rockers Blue Cheer, mixed with its own brand of free jazz-like improvisations.
Dense, thick, gut wrenching bass lines underpin a polished sound, making room for screeching guitar jams and feedback solos, while muffled vocals reverberate amid pounding drums on tracks such as "Whirl," a hazy, acid-influenced tirade. Pill, the drummer on this fourth release for the band formerly known as Psychedelic Speed Freaks, kicks the sound into relentless overdrive, anchoring the noodling guitar solos and sub-frequency bass of songs and improvisations, such as the electrifying six-minute epic "Ikon," perfectly.
