I am a building manager and recently our old vac died. I was sent to find a cheap replacement. This Dirt Devil was under $50 retail. It is very light weight and does have good suction for a small vacuum. The cord is exceptionally long and the beater brush is strong. It also has a tiny floor board beater brush that is a nice feature. It is light weight enough that I can haul it up and down 3 flights of stairs without having a stroke. It seems to be equally good on low pile carpet and bare floors. It comes with two attachments, a wand and a brush. The hose detaches easily and the suction is great through it. So this is all the good stuff.
Emptying the bagless dirt container is a terrible mess. I would NOT do it in your house or apartment. I take it outside to my dumpster. It is very very dusty when you empty it. There are two interior filters in the dirt container. You had better clean both out after use or it will clog up quickly and you will loose suction. Cleaning these is a mess too. I usually tap out the top filter and then pop out the lower filter and remove anything stuck to it.
It is not a bad vacuum for the price. It seems quite sturdy and with regular cleaning of the filters has great suction. It is just a terrible mess to clean and empty. If you have bad allergies or asthma, you might want to look for one with an actual bag. I think I will when this one dies.
