Publisher's Note The first dinosaur movie directed by Willis O'Brien in 1926 was called The Lost World. Between that film and Spielberg's The Lost World more than 70 years later, dinosaurs toys have become big business for collectors. This book, with more than 900 photographs, is one of the first identification and price guides to dinosaur and prehistoric figure collectibles. It determines the value of thousands of toys, figures, posters, and kits from the 1920s through the 1990s. Veteran collector Dana Cain gives special emphasis to dinosaur characters from movies and television, including the first animated film short, "Gertie the Dinosaur", and favorite shows of baby boomers and Gen-Xers like "The Land Before Time" and "Land of the Lost". She covers hard-to-find memorabilia such as the set of waxy plastic dinosaurs that were available from Sinclair Dinoland, a traveling educational carnival in the 1960s, and concludes with a chapter describing the ultimate dinosaur collectible -- fossils.
