Dinopals by Francie Alexander, Wiley Blevins (2006, Paperback)

I am using these books as homework for my first graders to read at home with their parents. They are useful for above average readers at this time of the year. After Nov. they will be closer to what an average 1st grader should be capable of decoding. I like the books because they are an fun incentive for kids to WANT to read.

My child enjoys the Dinopals set. They are easy readers with simple text and colorful pictures. The books keep the child's interest and also are helpful with learning. The books are a small size for little hands, easy to carry about, and nice little stories. I had purchased them for my child who is having trouble reading. He struggles with sounding out words. So the simple text isn't so overwhelming to him. The dinosaurs in the book are an added bonus for keeping his interest.

My 5 year old is really enjoying reading these. She's always liked dinosaurs and likes these characters. Most of the words are early phonics, short vowels, with a few sight or long-vowels as well. The pictures in these books are black and white and very engaging. An excellent addition to the HOP program and Bob books we've been working with, easier than the Clifford books, and Little Pony books. Cute stories! Cute Dinos!
