The book was fantastic! Dan Brown (like all his books) keeps you on the edge of your seat in just about every chapter, from beginning to end. The book certainly has action and adventure, with and a hint of romance towards the end. Dan Brown also gives true facts about life, and places you may have never known before. The book made me think a lot about different perspectives of the book on who the good guy was versus who the bad guy was because Dan Brown uses a lot reverse psychology and false impressions of characters throughout the book.

If you have read any of Dan Brown's other books and liked them, then you probably wont be dissapointed with this one.

Only Criticism: They lead this certain guy (trying not to reveal anything) on a "goose chase" to find this one ring and that started to bug me just a little bit. Also, I thought this was not his best book he wrote. In fact, this was the least entertaining for me AFTER i read some of his other books (Deception Point, Angels and Demons), but it was definately the best book i read before reading some of his other books, and still nothing short of amazing.
P.S. if you HATE computers and they are like quantum physics to you, you may not like this book.

Codes, crypts, Enigma, conspiracy...
Are these the words that make you curious?.
O.k., then Digital Fortress by Dan Brown should be a book for you.

Brown has done his research properly in the creation of the story.
He has developed very down to earth characters, that are believable.
This books is full of fast coming action and well written.
The story has several twists and never gets boring.

If you are a fan of good, thrilling fiction , you will find this a great and entertaining read.

Dan Brown's writing at its best. Again, like his other books, he holds your interest from the beginning to the end. Excellent reading.

  Simplified beyond belief

The technologies that form the backbone of the plot are simplified to childish levels. The characters are unbelievable. For instance, the main character has a 170 IQ and works for the NSA, using a machine that can brute-force *any* code in minutes. This character is surprised when her co-worker knows her 5 digit screen saver password. There are many other tangible gaps in this book. If you find computers or cryptography interesting, don't buy this book expecting any engaging material.

  Total waste of my time

I absolutely hated this book. The book is so hokey its beyond laughable. I feel like I was robbed of the hours it took me to get through the book. All of the "techno talk" was so not realistic, and I'm not exactly a computer guru, but even I can tell bologna when I read it. Can I get that wasted time back please!?!

" The number is three!.... Think Susan!... "..
.... Probably the worst book I've ever read

I enjoyed this book much more than the Da Vinci Code. It was very suspenseful and i had a hard time putting it down. I highly recommend this book to any fan of suspense fiction. I think Dan Brown's writing is improving with each new book.

I love this book! It's intelligent, exciting, and suspenseful as are all of Dan Brown's books. If you've read Angels and Demons or The DaVinci Code and enjoyed either of those books, this one is a must read! My only disappointment in this book is it is the last Dan Brown book out there for me to read! I've read them all!! Come on, Dan!! Write some more, pretty please!!!!

The price of this book was quite low as was the shipping. This was another of his books I had not yet read and was interested in reading it. No one in my area had this book without having to order it and then wait for months to get it. It was used, but I prfer to read the used ones, the pages turn easier and they are already moulded to a hand so you can usually hold them better without cramping your hand.

I enjoyed the book and it kept my interest. If you are a computer buff, this would be great for you. I'm not that much into computers but found the characters intesting with some good twists. This book is a good adventure with some thrills. I recommend it.

Not as good as Dan Brown's other books. But still good, any book that can keep my attention through out the whole book is always a good read. If you are not a computer person you might not like this book, but it has action and adventure and mystery. It gets an A in my book.

I boguth the book primarily to read other works by Dan Brown. I am a computer hardware engineer and I found it to worthy of making in to a movie some day. Although, the director has his/her work cut out because who is the main character here? I found that lack of a major character to be disturbing but over all the book was good. I enjoyed reading it.

AFter reading DVC, A&D and Deception Point, Digital Fortress is such a drag. No real action. Just a bunch of nerds roaming around. Its much boring compared to any other Dan Brown novels. I'll still finish it.

I have always enjoyed Dan Brown's imaginative way of writing so that the reader becomes part of the story. After reading one of his books, the reader can feel like a "micro" expert on a new topic. Digital Fortress was an inside look at the advancing world of technology and national security. It had a different pace than some of his other works, but I enjoyed the fullness of the world and the situations that he created.

An Excellent debut by a Fabulous writer!
Review created: 12/24/05

I have so far read 4 of Dan Brown's books (Angel & Demons, DaVinci Code, Deception Point & Digital Fortress) and three features of his writings stand out. First, audacious plotlines; Brown does not believe in small measures but goes out on a limb. The plotlines are way over the top but have just that crucial amount of credibility to draw in a reader, even when he knows it is fiction. Second, the pace is mercilessly quick; the entire plot of the book plays out over a few days at most. Last but for me the best of all, his books have a wealth of esoteric information that one would not normally read about. I found myself enthralled by a never ending series of factoids that had me rushing to the Internet for explanation or elaboration.

Digital Fortress follows the above lines. A quick capsule : Set with a cryptographic background, it describes a battle of wits between a governmental agency focused on breaking codes (used by good and bad guys alike in order to forestall terrorism) with a former employee who passionately believes in individual privacy. In a rapid-fire series of thrust and counter-thrust, the action cuts between Washington and Madrid with the standard does of blood, explosions and romance. Unlike Brown's other novels, this is very undemanding of a reader's intelligence - the average reader will see the signposts well before the protagonists themselves.

Sadly, there are flaws aplenty that seriously impact the plot credibility.
Apart from the likelihood of an amateur professor being used as a proxy agent, the ease of the bypassing of the Gauntlet anti-virus software, particularly when Gauntlet safeguards not only TRANSLTR but also the databank is simply not possible. In such a situation there would be multiple layers of safeguards, not just a single bypass attributable to a single individual no matter how senior. More to the point, having raised the whole issue of individual privacy vis-à-vis governmental oversight, Brown never follows through on the implications. A pity, as this is of key topical importance as well.

Nevertheless, this is a good weekend read when you want to just enjoy a story and not get too caught up in the process. Three stars for that, with a star each subtracted for the plot credibility lapses and inadequate research.

  Enjoyed This One Truly

I personally have not read a novel/book in over 8 years as I often find I could not make the time nor been able to finish a book without falling asleep. That was before I came upon Dan Brown.

He to me is a prolific writer which captures your imagination and his literary style makes it easy to keep your fingers moving/gliding through the pages. I have read all his books and am waiting anxiously for the his next release coming soon. Yes not all his books were of equal standing, but for a writer to do the amount of research he does and variety of topics he covers is staggering.

You cannot go wrong with a Dan Brown book.....while waiting for his next novel I've switched to Greg Iles another great writer.

cheers

Book was very enjoyable, good mystery. I enjoyed his other books, Davinci Code, and Angels & Demons, and The new one The Code, decided his other books, were most likely good also even though they didn't get all the hipe of these others.
