Synopsis In his candid, sometimes joyful memoir of growing up, Quinn Bradlee describes the many challenges posed by the fact that he was born with learning disabilities and endured years of unexplained migraines, seizures, and other episodes. Quinn's learning disabilities were identified at age four and addressed through special schooling arranged by his parents, the writers Sally Quinn and Ben Bradlee. At age 14, he was finally diagnosed as having Velo-Cardio-Facial Syndrome (VCFS). Quinn tells what it was like to go through life missing everyday social cues and being stigmatized, but the special quality of A DIFFERENT LIFE is his take on just being a young man in the world. Quinn Bradlee concludes with the advice that learning disabilities need to be acknowledged and that a "different" life can be a successful one.

Industry Reviews "Bradlee's book brings a bracing honesty to the tough stuff he's faced, and a sweet enthusiasm toward the things that make him happy, from surfing to his childhood dog. He doesn't sugarcoat how difficult difference can be, but there's no pity here, and no complaint." (04/19/2009)
