Long Live McClane -- AWESOME AGAIN !!!!

"Live Free or Die Hard" is the viscerally adrenaline-charged action-fueled new installment of the "Die Hard Saga".
"A Timex Watch in a Digital Age," sneers Villain Thomas Gabriel (Timothy Olyphant) of NYPD Cop John McClane (Bruce Willis) in 'Live Free or Die Hard', the exhilarating fourth installment in the "Die Hard" Series.
The first since 1995's 'Die Hard: With a Vengeance'. Willis was 40yrs old then; past 50yrs old now, the only thing he has lost is the rest of his hair. And Gabriel is right, McClane is a relic from an Analog World; yet he also forgets the Timex slogan: "It takes a licking but keeps on ticking", and so—gloriously—does McClane.
McClane remains the resolutely retro flatfoot Warrior, but Mark Bomback's screenplay reflects our Post 9/11, Post-Katrina Age where official response in a genuine crisis is assumed to be incompetent and paranoia is a reasonable emotion.
It is not that FBI Deputy Director Bowman (Cliff Curtis) and his men are incapable of doing their jobs, but when an anthrax scare, a transportation meltdown, and stock market crisis occur simultaneously, they are overwhelmed. Luckily, McClane just happens to be on the way, escorting hacking suspect Matt Farrell (Justin Long) to Washington. He already knows something's up, because somebody's trying hard to kill the kid. Matt himself turns out to be useful when he is able to diagnose the crisis as a "Fire Sale," a kind of virtual Armageddon where cyber vandals attack transportation, financial systems, and utilities.
Olyphant as the spurned Former Fed turned Terrorist who nurses an operatic dream of revenge holds the panache of such memorable 'Die Hard' bad boys as Alan Rickman and Jeremy Irons.
Willis' return to the character is certainly a welcome one. This is a role he was born to play, the acerbic working stiff who freely admits fear to Matt while never blinking once the guns start blazing or stuff starts blowing up around him. He is also a throwback to the "Classic Lone Hero"; a Gary Cooper or John Wayne for the Modern Era, possessing the same sense of decency but with snappier banter.
As appealing as the characters are, it's 'Action' that propels the 'Die Hard' Movies and Director Len Wiseman does not skimp at all in that department. From the explosive opening minutes straight through to the climax, there is little pause between the gun battles, chase scenes, car crashes, and explosions. There are more pyrotechnics in this movie than in the average Fourth of July fireworks display and while there are impressive instances of CGI—including one setup involving a jet, a big rig, and an elevated roadway — many of the more arresting sequences involve old-fashioned stunt work.
There is a welcome human element to this adventure that is missing from so many other action movies now where you are always aware that what we are watching is an actor in front of a green screen. Here, McClane takes a long fall to the pavement, the meeting between body and ground is so visceral that you wince. When he bleeds, you believe it.
Sequels can be such a crap shoot. This summer's "Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End" was a demonstrated success, while "Evan Almighty" was a massive flop. But Willis, in gambling that he could successfully revisit the character that made him a True Hero rolls "All Sevens".
This is action at its most entertaining and proof that there is a lot of life left in this franchise.
"Live Free Die Hard" is a 150% SUCCESS !!!!
Long Live McClane !

If you haven't been frozen in time, you've probably seen all the other Die Hard films. So you already expect what's going to happen, but it still is a rush to see old Bruce in action. Hey they have to make some of the action sequences over the top to outdo the other 3 Die Hards, but there's the usual blend of humor, action, and chase scenes to overcome the overused plot. It wasn't a waste of time, in fact I just rented the DVD after seeing it in the theater. Yippekiyay!

Live free or Die Hard- Classic Bruce Willis!
Review created: 01/03/08

Live Free or Die Hard finds John McClane a few years older, not any happier, and just as kick-ass as ever. Right after he has a fight with his college-age daughter, a call comes in to pick up a hacker, who might help the FBI learn something about a brief security blip in their systems. The Movie uses some of the cat-and-mouse elements of Die Hard with a Vengeance along with some of the pick-'em-off-one-by-one elements of the now-classic original movie. And it's the most consistently enjoyable installment of the franchise since the original, with eye-popping stunts, good humor, and Willis's ability to toss off a quip while barely alive.Plenty of action and a high body count. Make sure you pause this movie if you dare have to run to the bathroom! Excellant!!!

For all the DIE HARD fans out there, this would be a nice addition to their collection of destruction an may-hem. In the tradition of the movie series, the stunts always get riskier and the crashes more outrages. If you take it for what it is, you'll have a great time watching. I give it four of five.

  Awesome Action

I liked that Bruce Willis came back to revive his Die Hard series. I loved the previous Die Hard's as well. Probably a little bit better. I liked the last effort better, the one with Samuel Jackson. There was a rawness that kept in line with the tradition of the series that I believed Live Free or Die Hard was missing. Kind of contrived and predictable.
But, on the good side the action was second to none and there were some great action scenes that frankly I didn't think Bruce Willis would be able to pull off. He's no spring chicken.
Bruce Willis is a seriously under rated actor and I believe he's better than the critics give him credit for.
Keep 'em going Bruce you're not over yet.

If Your Gonna Die DIE HARD!!

All I can say about this one is WOW!!! Bruce has still got it. The action is intense and the special effects are amazing. If you think Bruce it to old Like Sylvestor was in Rocky Balboa(which he was) then you are wrong. This is the best movi in the series with a modern technology twist. Just Buy it and if you don't then at the very least rent it and you won't be disappointed. That is just this guys opinion. Thanks for taking the time to read my review and I would appreciate your yes vote.

This was a fun watch, but it does seem out of place for Die Hard. It just dosen't have the feel of the original movies. That being said its still a good action flick, and Bruce Willis is still a bad A$$.

  Die Hard 4
Review created: 07/28/09

This by far is the worst of the Die Hard movies! Of course Bruce is older now, but hardly the action you've seen in the past 3 movies. Now he and the wife are divorced and his daughter is a brat. This one is computer related and Justin Long plays the hacker that helps John McClain. I really liked the first 3, but this one was a major disappointment.

  Live Free or Die Hard
Review created: 04/15/09

In the latest installment of the pulse-pounding,thrill-a-minute Die Hard action films, New York City detective John McCane(Bruce Willis) delivers old-school justice to a new breed of terrorist when a massive computer attack on the U.S. infrastructure threatens to shut down the entire country over Independence Day weekend. Locked and loaded with real stunts, genuine humor and nonstop excitement, Live Free or Die Hard is a slick piece of action entertainment. This movie will keep you on the edge of your seat. Excellent movie.

This has to be my all time favorite movie. I love all the Die Hard movies and am a huge fan of Bruce Willis. This movie played more to my generation with the internet terrorism and all that and I loved it. Filled with action, a SEXY bad guy, and all in all great stunts and acting. Definately 5stars from me :)

Nothing beats Bruce Willis in an action flick!
Review created: 01/17/09

ALL of the "Die Hard" movies are so freakin' good, but "Live Free or Die Hard" takes it up a notch. It incorporates a lot of ideas that reflect our lives and lifestyles today. Whether it's incorporating various technological ideas, or fears of our country's safety, Bruce Willis is even more bad-ass (if that's even possible) in this latest "Die Hard".

  DVD Die Hard
Review created: 12/26/08

dvd skipped, just got it today...but seller seems nice. I guess you need to expect this when buying a used DVD. Over all it's okay even with the few skips.
Seller has great communication, and I'm sure doesn't have time and review every movie before selling. Die Hard 4 is the BEST of the BEST with Bruce Willis. If you haven't seen it...I think it's a MUST do!

I enjoy non-stop action movies. I was told by many that this was the best of the four movies and they were right. Non stop action from start to finish. I also like Bruce Willis and have most his movies.I bought this to complement the other 3 (Die Hard movies) I have. And it was also a b-day gift to myself.
