Import VS. Domestic Release

Shirley Bassey was the diva deluxe of the 50s-60s-70s, recording the most memorable theme songs for 007 films: Goldfinger, Moonraker, Diamonds Are Forever. When producers began to use pop rock bands for themes, Shirley remained popular in the U.K., but fell into a niche category. The Propellerheads' hit HISTORY REPEATING brought her to prominence and helped fuel this CD which is a reworking of her biggest hits by today's remix-masters: Kenny Dope, Mantronix, Twelftree, Wild Oscar, Propellerheads and more. Even when I play it in 2008, people are amazed and delighted by remixes of Light My Fire, Big Spender and Spinning Wheel.
Despite several similar projects, such as Verve and Bluenote remixes, Bassey's power vocals with a fresh remix remain classic and surprising. If you like the those other projects, this CD is a must for your collection.
I had a copy of this CD when first released in 2000, then I gave it away (not knowing I had an import copy), and bought another on eBay. It was missing three tracks: Moonraker, Diamonds Are Forever (extended mix), Light My Fire (extended mix). Make sure you get the import version.
