If you are an adamant cruiser, this book will be fascinating as it goes into detail on both the beginning of cruise ships and how everything has been consolidated.

  Hard to put down

This is a very engaging book, discussing the in's and out's of the industry from its infancy. I found the descriptions of the players personalities and their quirks to be very insightful and interesting. Because the cruise ship industry is very popular today and I live in South Florida, reading about its Miami beginnings is all that more interesting to me.

Fascinating history of the cruise industry
Review created: 10/20/05

Many books have been written about the history of ocean liners and passenger shipping, but this book breaks new ground in chronicling the advent and evolution of the vacation cruise business. If you’ve taken a cruise vacation or are planning a cruise vacation, you will enjoy learning more about what really goes on behind the scenes. If you have been an employee of a cruise line or a travel agent, you will find the business wheeling and dealing from the industry executives fascinating. This book focuses on how Miami became the Cruise Capital of the world, with Norwegian Cruise Line (NCL), Royal Caribbean Cruise Line (RCCL), and Carnival Cruises (CCL) fighting over market share and industry domination.

As a former cruise line employee myself, and cruise geek, I highly recommend this book.
