The devil Rides Out/ Rasputin the Mad Monk
I am an avid Hammer film collector, so when I saw both of these previously unreleased titles were available I had to pick them up. Rasputin is somewhat of a departure from Hammer's normal fare (that is available today, that is, being more of an action/historical fiction work rather than horror. Lee gives an impressive performance as the robust, lusty villain Rasputin, which is a departure from his normal more reserved, high class villain role.
The Devil Rides Out also stars Lee-this time as the film's hero opposite Charles Gray (Rocky Horror Picture Show). This film is less than impressive, the plot meanders somewhat, and it' depiction of the occult is somewhat childish. The film's climax is disappointing, with the villain's demise happening off screen. Still, it is an entertaining look into Hammer history.
