Fast, chilling and entertaining

There seems to be quite a few movies that have been released within a short period of time (2 yrs) that seem to follow the same plot. 1)The Hills Have eyes
2)Wolf Creek 3)Wrong Turn and 4) (ALAS) 'Detour' I gave reviews on the other three. Here we go with Detour. The movie was surprisingly good. Bare in mind the difficulty of writing a good thriller today. The cast had loads of acting talent though no tremendous big names. The story (good script) is closely based on the other three movies and I sometimes wonder if it were any closer, would there will be a 4 way explosion of lawsuits. Anyway, ok,
A group of road tripping college kids take a wrong turn in their Winnebago, and wind up in a desert populated by a family of flesh hungry cannibals. (ala 'Wrong Turn'). Great acting horror cast, but they play the roles of annoying characters who are as dumb as the desert rocks around them. The characters could have been fleshed out better by the writers. Gorgeous girls with backsides that would even wet the appetite of a vegetarian-turned cannibal (check out American Pie star Shannon Elizabeth's hot little sister Ashley in her tight Daisy Duke shorts!!!), and some of the meanest, ugliest villains in cinematic history. The cannibals are just plain mean. It seems that these cannibals have taken over this stretch of the desert, just waiting for an unsuspecting meal, such as these friends, who must learn to viciously fight back in order to survive (ala Wolf creek and Hills Have Eyes). I would not have paid $11 to see the movie, but it's worth a pay per view on cable and a 'reasonable price on buy'. One of the teens (a Caucasian) has the dialog and vocabulary of the ultimate 'Brother in the hood wanna be' At first it's annoying, then just plain funny. If you can take that, you'll like the movie. It's not as good as 'Wrong Turn' Par with 'Hills Have Eyes' and slightly better than 'Wolf Creek' (unless Wolf Creek can really prove it's based on a true story which they ambiguously indicate at the end by paragraph). Compared to a bombardment of clunkers in the last couple of years, Detour is Fun, scary, and intense suspense. Go for it! It's worth the pick up. (-:
