I'm a huge horror & suspense fan.I'm sorry as a buff. It lacked any real story line is too drawn out in the 1ST 30-45mins. I will give it props on gore,detail,& effects. Other then that it left me lacking. What is this movie really about. I loved the Europe accents though.

"The Descent: UNRATED" is one of the most horrifying films I have sat down and watched in a while. -- With edgy-camera work and significantly drone dark cavern settings; played backdropped against extremely claustrophic undergrounds, you can absolutely smell, feel and breathe the dank, damp, cold rock caves where the ultimate battle of Good vs Evil will take it's battlefield.
Every year, a group of thrill-seeking, risk-taking women get together to experience an adventure of adrenaline-pumping intensity; (i.e. White Water Rafting, Sky-Diving is mentioned, etc..). This year; one year after one woman experiences the tragic loss of her husband and daughter in a major car wreck; the women have reunited in the Appalachians to explore a series of underground caves never before attempted or marked for discovery.
Once below in the caves, claustrophobically tight spaces build extremely tight-taut tension as it becomes clear that these caves have never been explored for a reason. Then, rocks in a narrow-passage give way; sealing the group of women in the caves., seeking a new way out. But it has only begun., as an Evil so devious and cunning lays in wait; ready to attack again., and again., and again.
"Survival of the Fittest" has laid it's boundaries and one of the fiercest battles between "Good and Evil" are brought to the big-screen., as these women encounter horror and evil's most frightening menaces in the most tension-intensified manner. (With a mixed reminiscent feel of "Aliens", "Blair Witch", "The Cave" and "Dawn Of The Dead" this movie creates a very tense, uncomfortable reality to it's direction; making you feel as if you are literally trapped in these caves with them.)
An originally made British Horror Film., the truly amazing and enticing feature of "The Descent: UNRATED VERSION" is that it's cast is ALL women. An empowering group of adrenalized women who must save themselves and reveal the inner strength in not just man; or just women... but in all of us. These women perservere and battle brutally; with more primal instinct and brutality than would be expected from Horror Films, where women usually have always lain in wait to be prey. These women show that primal fear in all of us can derive the most primal strength and blinding brutality; in the name of survival. Applauds to the producers for making this film with such a strong, empowering female cast.
The special-effects are mind-numbing and the film has absolute perfect cinematography and climactic timing. Honestly, I wouldn't change one thing in it. Including a major realization ending!! Simply and Bluntly put; SEE THIS !!!! It's worth every second !!!! Highly Recommended !!

The plot of this movie involves a group of friends who decide to go on a cave expedition together because they are just that hard core with their extreme sports. Sarah lost her child and husband in a car accident the year before and is still having trouble adjusting to life without them so her friends hope that dragging her away from home and distracting her with this activity will help. Or part of it could just be guilt as it becomes obvious that her "friend" Juno was having an affair with her husband.

Anyway, those are the only characters you really get a chance to meet because we're all thrown into the cave rather quickly. This has it upsides and downsides. The upside is, for everyone who watches horror movies just for the scares, there's less plot to sift through. The downside of course is when people get messed up in horrible and interesting ways, we don't know if we should care because we don't even know what their name or relationship to anyone there was.

Once in the cave, we find out that due to Juno's arrogance, she tricked everyone into thinking it was a different cave. It's actually an unexplored one and she wants them to make their mark on it! This is very dangerous, however, because it means they don't know a thing about it. They find some really old left behind tools from someone else who WAS there before them and while at first this gives them hope of a way out, they realize quickly that the other person couldn't have gotten out either. There are cave creatures that are humanoid but can't see (why should they?) and respond to sound and like to eat people. They look kinda like a bigger scarier version of Gollum from Lord of the Rings. Rather quickly, all the girls are wiped out except Sarah and Juno. Sarah has just found out about the affair and the audience is wondering if they'll work together to get out or if she's going to be stupid and make it personal in the cave. She gets personal alright. A pick ax to the leg leaves Juno as bait while Sarah tries to escape. They put on a great trick ending, but basically we're left with Sarah hanging out in the cave, having personally killed her friend for no reason since she'll never get out either. My husband and I are still debating whether she actually killed her friend or not.

This movie has some good scares, and some good demonstrations of athletic ability (at one point this girl whose name we never learned is dangling from one arm from the ceiling of the cave as she tries to make a safe path for others with rope), and kicking butt against cave creatures. If we're judging it against all horror movies which tend to have plot holes and bad dialogue and focus on the scares, I give this movie a B+. If I was judging this against all movies in general, it'd be a lot lower because I'm not as fond of those things.

This is a really Awesome movie one of the best made horror's in a long time. I will say it starts out kind of slow but it does turn out really good. Once you get past the slow begining it is nothing but great. It is a really gorey, bloody and creepy movie. It is about a group of women who go to checkout a underground cave, and they get trapped in it, and then they try, and find a way out, and they also discover they are not alone in the cave that there is some creatures that are just disgusting & very creepy, and they end up having to fight to stay alive. I will say I have not jumped so many times watching a horror flick movie in a long time as I did watching this one. This also has a different kind of ending it will surprise you with a twist. This is a must buy. I will have to say I give this one a 5 Star rating out of 5. It was money well spent.

Pros
+ Creepy atmosphere, plenty of gore.
+ Deep character development & conflict amongst one another.
+ Memorable villains, more like a survival horror film.

Cons
- Ending lacks real punch.
- Can tend to move slow up until the monsters.
- Maybe a little unrealistic for some harsher critics to believe.

Comments
I love this film. It is an awesome experience and you wil probably watch it multiple times. Most of the actors are British so if you have anything against British films you may be extra tough on the film. This is one of the best horror films to come out ever and probably at least the best of the year.

Must have for any true fan of horror.

you want to see a movie that will keep you on the edge of your chair?... this is the one. From the time it starts to the the very end it will keep you on the edge..... it will shock you to the point you will watch it again and again. Just hold on and take the cave crawl with them...

I bought this one before I saw it because just from the description I knew I would like it. It's a nice combination of action and horror and really kept my attention throughout.

This movie is great! Nonstop action! Very intense! Hooray for woman! The price was right so I bought it!

I bought this movie because I am claustrophobic and this cave-exploring thru spaces just big enough to barely get through had my skin crawling not to mention what they found once they DID get through. It's possible this could really happen...I think.
The chemistry between the actresses worked well too considering they were in every scene together. It had to work. It is almost like a Stephen King horror film. I'm not much for scary movies but this one took the cake for me!

This movie was pretty exciting. Several spots make you jump. I didn't like how a lot of things went unexplained. I still wonder where the creatures came from & what happened afterwards. Maybe there will be a Descent part 2. I didn't have a problem with the enclosed spaces in the cave but one of my friends was not comfortable with all the tight spaces & she hated the movie.

First creepy movie i've seen in awhile. Actually made me jump a few times. It starts out slow and says the f-word a lot. I would recommend this movie if you don't mind bad language and like a good scare.

this movie has a great story line and will keep you on your toes throughout the whole movie... recommend very highly

This movie is awesome! It's one of the best horror movies I've seen in years. Bloody shortly from the beginning and it doesn't stop till the end. Didn't have me on the edge of my seat though. And the acting was alright. that's why I didn't give it an Excellent rating. Overall I do recommend this movie to horror fans.

Holy Cow!!! This movie made me and my husband both jump, many times.. There are alot of unexpected, frightening things that happen in this movie! The actresses are great. I wasn't sure what to expect when I first saw it, but after I did, I knew I had to have it!!! This movie is VERY SCARY!!! There is A LOT of BLOOD, GUTS AND GORE!!! If you are looking for a scary movie with lots of twists and undescribable characters, you need to see this movie!!

way to much hype on this movie i think its the frist no scary ....scary movie ive seen it takes to long to get to the point ..i could not beleve this movie was from the same man that made DOG SOLDIERS i spent a year reading all the hype on this ''scary''movie so i got into a biding war over it a won? watch'd it an could not get over the feeling i got CORN-HOLE'D .......ret it frist!!!!!!!!

This is a great horror/thriller classic. The camera work is awesome. I am not claustrophobic, but this presentation draws you in and gives you shivers up the back of your neck as you watch. The cast of characters is strong.
The plot is a story about 6 women who once a year get together to test themselves and each other in a dangerous variety of sports ie; whitewater rafting,cliff climbing and cave exploration.
While in a series of unexplored caverns they encounter life and death struggles and an unforseen encounter with underground dwellers.
Great movie to watch in the dark for the best effect! Highly recommended!

Once this movie got into the cave it really started to pick up steam all the way to the finish! I would reccomend this one.
