Demos by Stills & Nash Crosby (CD, Jun-2009, Rhino Records USA)

I hate writing reviews because it seems like a waste of time since nobody's going to read it,especially here on eBay where reviews aren't as easy to view as they are on Amazon.I'm only doing this because I'm bored and have nothing else to do.Now on with the review:I bought this CD as a companion to the CSN box set.These performances,of course,aren't as polished as the released versions,that's why they're called demos.These recordings only span the time period of 1968-1971,so it's hardly representative of Crosby,Stills & Nash's entire recording career(could a second volume be forthcoming?).Furthermore,only one track is actually credited as being performed by all three and that's Graham Nash's "Marrakesh Express" which is the lead-off track.Most of the other songs are solo performances by one member of the group with one song("Music Is Love")by David Crosby, Neil Young & Graham Nash(an interesting CYN collaboration without Stephen Stills and the only instance where Neil Young appears on the CD).There's also a version of "Long Time Gone" performed by Crosby & Stills(not David's regular partner,Nash).Those two tracks are the most curious things here and five of the songs on the CD are likely to be unrecognized by casual fans of the trio(mainly because they were either never previously released as master performances or they appeared on one of the trio's solo efforts).Although the compilation was produced by Graham Nash,Stephen Stills pretty much dominates the proceedings with no less than six songs on the 12 track disc.All of the songs are good and worth hearing,but,as stated in the title of this review,mainly for collectors.So there you have it.My review of CSN's "Demos" CD.I know that this is a pretty long review for someone who hates writing such things,but,like I said,I'm bored.
