Demon's Souls (Playstation 3, 2009)

Undoubtedly, Demon’s Souls is a classic and in our book, the best RPG title on the PS3 so far. Even with the crazy difficulty and the lack of any real story cut-scene, the game has a distinctive charm that make gamer want to plough on even when they’ve been killed for the umpteenth times. In fact, the game’s level of difficulty has successfully made leveling-up a genuinely challenging and enjoyable experience; instead of the mundane button-smashing ordeals in many other RPGs.

In addition, Demon’s Souls is coupled with an interesting worldview, carefully thought-up exploration areas, unique enemies, and a customization-based leveling-up engine that literally gives you the freedom to use unlimited fighting style. Most importantly, Demon’s Souls is genuinely enjoyable from start to finish – and that speaks plenty amidst the assault of game titles we get nowadays.

Move aside Konami, Capcom, and Square Enix. From Software has just become the first game developer to score a Perfect 5 out of 5 with Demon’s Souls on the PS3Hyper Review. Now, we demand a sequel, and quick!

This will easily get GOTY for me. A must play for any hardcore gamer. Extremely difficult. With that comes extreme fun. A must have import.

This game is hard... But if you persist through you will discover a game filled with thrills and a lot of deaths... I haven't had any time for the multiplayer element of the game but it sounds awesome

I bought this game knowing it would be tough and it didn't let me down. From the first minute of the game, you need to keep your head straight or have it chopped off by the hoards of undead and demon spawn. For those asking why it's so hard, one of the main reasons is that if you die, you have to start the dungeon from scratch, with the exception of switches opened which act as short cuts. However, not all the levels have those. I've beat the game a few times through now and I'm about to get my platinum. The replay value is great. After I get my platinum I'm going to try out online pvp play and co-op online play(dabbled in it a bit but not a lot). It's definately the best RPG I've played for PS3(better than Oblivion in my opinion). It's a true test of patience at times, but in the end it is well worth it. If you have the time to sit and think about strategy, try different things, look online for help occasionally, then you will get through this game and love it. If you are looking for an easy experience you can beat in a few days and move on, then I would keep looking elsewhere!

The game was very enjoyable and it took up a lot of my spare time. I had fun playing online with my friends who also bought the game and we spent countless hours finding new weapons and killing invading players. I found the system of hints very helpful but, aggravating at the same time. I plan on buying it again when it is released in North America.

If you love action RPG games like Kings Field or Oblivion then this is the game for you. Not only are you playing by yourself but since you are logged on to the Demon's Souls server you can see the ghosts of other players playing their game as well. You can then play with or against other players if you choose to. You start off in the physical world but inevitably you are killed and play the game as a soul or ghost. You can eventually move back and forth from physical to ghost but that comes later. Great import since it recognizes your language as english and loads everything that way. No need to select english it does it for you - Sweet! This game will come out in the US in Oct but why wait? If you can get a good price on a used copy here on eBay go for it!

Yes, the title says it all. Game is hard but there's a huge learning curve. I died many times, but I still come back to it. You just have to be patient and learn from your mistakes. This game is going to become hard to find, so if you are looking for some challenge then this is it. Game visuals are simply beautiful and it never seems to get old. If there's one word I can use to describe this game, I think it would be satisfaction.

I bought this game because I heard how hard it was and I wanted a challenge. I alos heard about how rewarding it was when you did suceed and it offsets the frustration of repeated failure. They weren't lying, this game is very strict and makes you become proficient at it. That being said it won't be for everyone but once you get past the whole grr I died feeling and start looking at what did I do that lead to that the game becomes more interesting, that and you want to see what horrible new challenge is around the corner.
The graphics aren't great, the characters sometimes are downright ugly, there is very little if any music, but the gameplay will suck you in and after awhile you don't even notice or care.

It is a good game. It is good to buy. The person sell it has accurate information. He shipped it as soon as possible.

A great game but it takes perseverance. It has several very difficult parts and no convenient save points. If you die the retry seems to be more difficult rather then easier.

multiplayer isn't what you think finding your friends on it are next to impossible you never know what server you are on. cant upgrade armor not particularly hard game and dont always connect to the server and it has gone down once already

It's simply a well produced game - the depth and complexity of the character and weapon system is phenomenal. I put in 100 hours or so and gotten all of the trophies, which is quite a feat! I don't know when the last time I did that was.

The difficulty is high, and it requires some re-tooling of existing gaming skills - that is, (1) be careful, (2) plan ahead, (3) move slowly, (4) approach every enemy conservatively, and (5) remember every detail of the level. If you manage those, you'll have a challenging and rewarding experience.

Very hard game, where you die often, and have to start from the beginning of the level everytime you die.
Other players roam the worlds like ghosts, which is really cool and helpul.

Demon Soul is a beautiful action role playing game. The game is filled with many innovations. Your character, for instance, can carry two weapons for each hand. The game allows you to mix and match different equipment types. You can equip two swords at the same time or even two shields. You are also able to switch between 2 sets of equipped weapons at any time. There are also world and character 'tendencies'. Tendency shifts to white if you defeat bosses, or shifts to black if you are killed in your "living body form". The game gets harder if tendency shifts to black. The multi-player element in the game is also innovative. You are able to invade another person's game and hunt him/her down as a phantom. Nice.

Pros:
-Very creative and inspired artistic design
-Beautiful graphics and music
-Easy to get used to and intuitive combat controls
-Excellent level design with many hidden areas and items
-Unforgettable environments and enemies
-Nonlinear level design allows you to visit any worlds at any time

Cons:
-Very punishing, the final boss has the ability to lower your character's level! ouch
-If you have many spells memorized you'll have to cycle through them all to find the one you want
-The save file is copy protected so you won't be able to make a backup copy of it at your PS3 save data utility

My character level is 113 and it took me 77 hours to beat the game, so there is a lot of content here for the dollar. In the end Demon Souls is an awesome RPG that isn't for everyone.

Honestly, this has been one of the hardest games to play. You almost always need some assistance at the beginning, but once you are a few levels up - the multiplayer aspects come into play and all is well in your universe. Well, at least until you go into a new level that kills you off again. This amazing world just seems to pull you back again and again with stunning characters and visuals (dont forget the amazing audio). Enjoy the game and do not ever give up.

This is game is ridiculously hard. I mean theres easy, medium, hard, really hard, and then not fun hard. This game falls under the not fun hard in my opinion. You'll play for around an hour or so trying to get through the level. Then you die and lose EVERYTHING and you have to start the whole level over with all the enemies back.

The PS3 game Demon's Souls is an action RPG that really stands out for one reason, it's brutally unforgiving and extremely difficult. I picked the game up thinking it would be just another challenge but it's much more than that. The game play itself is solid and easy enough but the shear goals and mechanics can be downright punishing. The level design is great and the animation is superb, the story is also engrossing and really draws you in. If you're a hardcore RPG nut or someone looking for the ultimate challenge, Demon's Souls should not be missed! You will definitely get frustrated but that's just part of the game; trial and error is the key to success here. I'm not a huge fan of the genre, but this game is awesome! Highly recommend this for PS3 owners.

When I first played it, I thought this game is really hard, difficult but so well balance game-play.If you ask me now what I think about it.... I love it so much I played it several times after I finished it, is really nice to play it online, if you get stock trying to battle one of the several bosses on one level, you can ask for help to other players to help you battle this boss.
It is an awesome RPG.

if you want a challenge, but not impossible, and enjoy rpg kill the monster this is it. i enjoy playing so much. others may say it to much of a pain, i always cant wait to get back to it, and disappointed that i have to stop. i will get many many hours of playing with this game. and replay it again after i beat it

Demon's Souls (which is a PS3 exclusive) really feels more like a PC title, in that it offers a challenge and level of difficulty not seen recently on the current generation consoles.

This game is relatively expansive, and has great graphics (despite a max resolution of 720p) and a very fitting soundtrack. But what stands out the most about it is the brutal and unforgiving play style, reminiscent of video games from decades past, that in no way "holds your hand" throughout. However, some areas are made easier by an online feature that lets players leave messages and hints for each other.

i bought this item because im a player, this videogame has a wonderful advanced graphics with wide auto-play enemy tactics, is also one of the hardest game ever made and also one of the longest games, i like everything in this game except the difficulty
