Delta Airlines - An Incredible Airline

I was hired by Delta Airlines in 1979, the same year this book was published. During this time period (late 70's,early 80's), Delta was known as the southern, family airline. It was an incredible company to work for. I was able to fly during a time period when it was considered the best job in the world. This book illustrates Delta's beginnings as a crop dusting company. It is hard to believe that this company had such humble beginnings. On September 17th, I celebrated my 30 year anniversary, I was able to retire at 26 years. It is hard to believe that I've waited for this time period for 30 years. With so many people losing their jobs and fear of job stability, I can say that this was never an issue with the Delta Airlines that we knew. During the company's heyday, other companies around the world studied Delta's employee structure to try to duplicate an obviously strong workforce. We loved our jobs and "it showed". As I mentioned, I was hired in 1979, the same year this book was published; I was also hired at United Airlines but decided on Delta primarily because the airline flew to London and Frankfurt and United didn't have international at the time. I've spent most of my career flying international and have had some of the most wonderful experiences. It is really interesting to read stories about Delta Airlines and the airline industry in general during a time period when air travel was for the priviledge few. I feel so fortunate to have flown the larger planes during my time period of travel. The things we take for granted. Delta Airlines - the best job in the world.
