Worth the wait

This release from Jo Dee Messina, the first in over four years, was well worth the wait. The debut single from the album, "My Give a Damn's Busted," reflects a lot of the personal strife the singer has had to overcome. All of the songs on this album carry strong messages that speak universally to any of us. Some reflect loss, which could be tied to a break-up in her personal life with her long-time boyfriend. "You Were Just Here" is one such song, performed unbelievably by Messina live. "It Gets Better," co-written by Messina herself, is a ballad that leaves the listener willing to persevere and again reflects a personal battle Messina has waded through. Not all of the album is a downer, though. The first cut, "I'm Not Going Down," has a great kick to it, as well as the title cut, "Delicious Surprise." If you've never been a Jo Dee Messina fan, "Delicious Surprise" is her best work yet and a great way to be introduced to this tremendous and underrated talent.
