Delcimore Revisited 2008 - David Schnaufer Dulcimer CD

David Schnaufer described the "del-ci-more" as "a three or four-stringed fretted zither common to the Appalachian mountains characterized by dulcet tones and mysterious drones which combine to create a primitive but elegant harmony."
His eclectic CD Delcimore had everything from solo dulcimer to chamber orchestra, Mingus to Bach, traditional music to Townes Van Zandt, duets with Steve Seifert and live field recordings with special guest appearances by Cyndi Lauper and Nigel Pulsford of the British Band Bush plus a special appearance by the thirteen year cicadas.
"Delcimore revisited" is a long overdue re-master from the original Delcimore CD by Jan Pulsford who produced Delcimore with David in 1999. It is a beautiful tribute to the late master of the mountain dulcimer.
David Schnaufer was probably the world’s leading authority on the Delcimore and Tennessee Music Box, immortalized in the Spider Robinson book Callahan’s Touch, and something of a cult figure in the alternative country scene. He was often seen as "too country for country". Schnaufer's fans numbered Johnny Cash, Emmylou Harris, Nanci Griffith, Bare Junior and of course Nigel Pulsford, guitarist from the British Rock band Bush, and Cyndi Lauper who both contributed to his "sonic wilderness", as David liked to call the sound of his fourth solo CD.
Schnaufer mixed traditional Appalachian music with chamber orchestra, Mingus with Bach, a new Townes Van Zandt tune and live field recordings, adding up to 50 minutes of truly unique music played on one of America's truly unique instruments by a truly unique individual.
Sadly missed but never forgotten
David passed away in August 2006
