Deke! by Donald K. Slayton, Michael Cassutt (1994, Hardcover)

This is a treat for people looking for a first person account of the glory years of NASA. Deke is an honest straight forward man and that is how the book reads. You will get some great insight on the individual astronauts. Deke however tempers his personal opinions so there is not much inside “dirt”. This is not a tell all book. Deke picked all of the crews for Gemini and Apollo missions. He goes out of his way not to heap too much praise upon Neil Armstrong. Armstrong was just one of many who could have been the first man on the moon. This is a great book well worth reading.
