Synopsis DEFIANCE is the inspiring true story of a community of World War II-era Jews in Belorussia who formed a makeshift army and battled the Nazis with whatever weapons they could find or build. The small company, led by the three Bielski brothers, used guerrilla fighting techniques to rescue an untold number of Jewish prisoners, many of whom then joined their ranks, eventually pushing their numbers to over 1,200. Despite employing many women, elderly, and children as soldiers, the company incurred an unbelievably minuscule loss of only five percent of its numbers through the war.
