  Great CD From Debbie
Review created: 10/21/07

Debbie's fourth solo CD is pretty damn good - not as good as Def Dumb and Blonde, her previous solo CD, but still very good. The lead single, I Can See Clearly, is an OK dance pop number that managed to get her played on the radio again, but it's one of the weaker tracks on the CD. Debbie rocks out on Standing In My Way and Dancing Down The Moon, gets all sassy on The Fugitive, slows it down for the excellent tracks Moodring, Strike Me Pink, and Keep On Going, and goes 60's retro for Teardrops and My Last Date With You. Rain is pure pop pleasure, while Debbie's punk roots show on Dog Star Girl. Lip Service is a poppy new wave track, as is Stability. I love the line Don't Orchestrate my Life from this song. The only real bummer on the CD is Communion, her collaberation with R.E.M. I don't know what this song is about, but it lacks melody and the lyrics are lame. But hey, only one bad track out of fourteen? That's quite impressive. This is a great CD. It should have been bigger, I don't think Sire promoted it. If you like Debbie Harry or Blondie, I think you'll like this record. Check it out!

The Many Faces of Deborah Harry
Review created: 03/28/07

After falling flat on her face three previous times, singer, song-writer & actress Deborah Harry picks herself back up, dusts herself off and keeps on singing. for that I must give Harry credit. It seems like (even eleven years later) she just can't seem to shake off the skeletons in "Blondie" tee-shirts. So brings us to solo Harry album number four: "Debravation". On the track "Stability" again tackles a black dominated genre: rap. Not too shabby. Equally phenomenal is her icy cold, soothing vocal work on "Strike Me Pink" and "Mood Ring" (watch the "Pink" video if you can find it). Do-Wop on the tracks "Last Date" and "Tear Drops" I couln't stop dancing to Harry's Edgar Allan Poe inspired modernized disco tune "Lip Service". Hence the problem of this album. Harry has vocal capabilites to conquer and dominate all these different genres. Cramming them on one album is her downfall here. Sometimes it works, this is not one of those. Harry's other three works were too homogenized. She just needs to find a healthy balance. In short, this is an album for those who own almost every other album Deb's voice can be heard on or like albums that span multiple genres. Cheers - M. Adair
