I always loved those old B rated movies that they use to show at the drive-in's, at this one pays great tribuate to those. Sexy women, hot cars, cool car chases, who wouldn't love it!

Other than one scene I think this was a fantastic piece of work.
This is not a predictable outcome.
Boring for just a few moments here or there but you find yourself very satisfied in the end............

  Quentin Tarantino is pure genius!
Review created: 09/27/07

Although Death Proof is reminiscent of an earlier time, it feels fresh and original. I love the way Quentin Tarantino intentionally mixes the old with the new. In one scene, he has 60's music blaring on a record-playing jukebox while the main character is sending a text message via mobile phone. The man is a genius. As if to sign the piece of work, Quentin sprinkles ultra-sexy, shoe-less ladies throughout the movie--a testament to his real-life foot fetish. Kurt Russell is a little over the top, but it's a B movie or is it? Death Proof is worth watching...again and again. Each viewing will reveal something new.

The "Gotta Have It DVD" of the year and why
Review created: 12/09/07

First of all this is a "gotta have it" DVD for any true Tarantino fan out there. This is true for many reasons. This movie takes everything you have ever loved about Tarantino movies and puts it all together in one movie. You have the famous "wish you said it first" dialogue, the themed sequences of "foot" scenes (this would be what the red and yellow was for Kill Bill or the "Samuel L. Jackson" moments of Pulp Fiction), the female stars which have boys drooling and girls wishing they could be them, the ANTICIPATION, and if all else fails you have a reason to see Kurt Russell back in action. You will also get to see some familiar faces linked with Tarantino in the past as well as his fantastic soundtracks you have most likely come to love. If you are not a Tarantino fan (shame on you) then this would be the ultimate gift for someone who is. Buy it for them, watch it with them, and then buy it for yourself.

I see a couple self appointed 'Critics' just don't get Tanantino!
My gosh, this was great entertainment from several levels.
Not what I expected, but that is 'to be expected'!
If you walk away with a big smile and feel fully entertained as I did, than you got your money's worth!

Not necessarily my favorite Tarantino movie, but the dialogue is classic... I remember seeing it in theaters and thinking... these chicks are pretty hardcore. It's classic Tarantino, all the way.

Great car chase movie, probably the best this decade. Really puts you into the chase through amazing camera angles and shots. Not a lot of plot here, put hey, who cares that much when classic muscle cars have a death match! The girls are HOT and proof of the Alpha Female concept. Don't expect a lot of skin showing in this Rodrigues flick, just sit back and enjoy the ride!

Should have been called death boring...

This movie makes me think that Quentin has lost his genius. It had no plot at all. The first 30 minutes (altho, it seemed more like an hour) was nothing more than girls talking, and talking, and yet more talking. I was bored at the 45 minute mark, but I wanted to be fair and did watch the entire movie. Worse spent time in a very looooong time. The send group of girls was more of the same...talking, talking, talking. Then "finally"(!!) the car chase scene! It was a good scene, but not worth watching the entire movie for. Quentin fans, especially, the men would probably be happier with seeing the lap dance and the car scene. Might have made for a much shorter movie...but at least it would have been entertaining.

I'm a huge Tarantino fan but this movie got me a bit disappointed.
I live in Sweden and I bet that this movie where awesome in the shorter grindhouse cut that they had over in US. Sure this movie had some great moments but the extended one got alot boring some parts. Between Death Proof and Planet Terror, I'm all Planet Terror!

I didn't like this attempt at a "B" movie by Quentin. His breaks are too dramatic to be believable. I think what he was trying to evoke was a feeling of the old 70 mm Technicolor shifting (pun intended) out of black-and-white graininess, but the colors are too intense to buy off on, and the difference between the really good color shots and really crappy and cropped B and W make the feel of the movie deliberate, and therefore unbelievable. I found myself looking for the next 'B' movie cliche or corrected celluloid clip. Sorry Mr Tarantino, no cigar today, and I am a die hard fan of your earlier work.

  Deathproof? more like Funproof

Well firstly why did you want to get this movie? Is it because you're a fan of Mr. Q? is it because you like old time movies in which the likes Hollywood doesn't make anymore (in which I mean movies that were kick ass back in the late 60's to mid 70's.)Or were you told to watch this movie because of a friend? In my case it was that last one, I was a fan of Quentin's early work but after kill bill vol 2 I was all "ah dude what the hell is he thinking!?" I wanted to see "Grindhouse" at the local Cineplex when it came out but I wasn't able to do so in a timely fashion so instead I waited around to get it on DVD...what a fool I was.

This movie is dreck, the premise starts off with some mid 20 southern gals who you kind of feel sorry for since they usually like to let out "whoo" at every moment and then get sloshed for no big reason. Our main girls here end up at a bar and start drinking that'd put W.C. Fields to shame. We then find out that there is a sociopathic stuntman named mike at this very bar downing nachos and drinking virgin mixed drinks (plot point!) And basically follows them and comes up with a real neat way to get rid of this scum. I won't spoil it for you...wait no, I should be discouraging you from seeing this tripe, and I’ll bloody well spoil it!
So then Mike finds the girls and since they are what brits would say "delightfully sloshed" he then goes down further and floors the pedal of his car that is made to be "DEATHPROOF" (hence the name of the movie) Since these boozed up bimbos don't see his black muscle car since he killed the lights and as luck would have it totally crash into old Mike's car! and be killed in the process. Now it may just be me talking since I am a sick, twisted man but the part where the girl's leg was torn out of her body and the death and destruction of the females was the best part of the movie! Shows those girls! Ha-ha

Of course from that sweet part the rest it goes down faster than a Japanese bomber on a cold December morning. After the girl's are long dead and mike's all healed up he goes back to his old hunting ways but instead of finding another group of sauced up sexpots he finds a trio of "Girl power rawr" laughable women who believe themselves to be quite tough but miss that mark by a nautical mile. At the end mike tries to do the same with these floozies but they instead beat him up, very much unrealistic as possible. I was just so tiffed I would have recommended this if good ol' Mike kills them too but they end with a beat down on his just because he tried to run them off the road ...those emotional women. Well then that's the review of this; I'll close with a STRONG RECOMMENDATION for you to not buy/look at/rent/or borrow this crap. If you want something like this may I suggest "Planet Terror"? That movie came out to be so much cooler than Deathproof, proof possible that tarantino does not know how to make a movie that is cool and entertaining at all.

J

NOT WORTH BUYING. Rent if curious to know! Compared to its companion film Planet Terror, Death Proof is pretentious and boring where Planet Terror is creative and non-stop exciting. Very Tarantino: too much talk with nothing to say. Long set-up, amateurish over-acting, pompous directorial, to arrive at a still cliche, over-sold, so-what climax with a totally unimaginative ending.

  Its All Talk
Review created: 12/08/07

This movie has some really great moments and some of the most BORING moments I have ever seen. I thought the first group of girls talked way too much but I was wrong. When it switches to the next group of girls after the first bunch die its just overkill on the talking. Whenever Kurt Russell is on screen the movie is great, and Rose McGowans small role is great as well. The endless talking ruins this movie I think, but the car chases are grand and there are some nice old muscle cars in it too.

I saw this in the theatre with Grindhouse and Boy it was so funny! Just the masters Quentin Tarantino &
Robert Rodriguez again paired up to make a 70's classic theme! Histerical at times and just downright out classic! Kurt Russell gets his butt kicked by three girls in the end though! Taught him a lesson on feminine wilds! If you did see the long version in the movies-this should be okay to watch for the time being! Great!

This movie was honestly THE MOST BORING film I have ever watched in my entire life. If you dig sitting around listening to chicks talk for 30 or 45 minutes straight TWICE in a 2 hour period...then this movie is for you. Save yourself the headache and skip right to the last couple scenes. They are the only part of this movie worth watching. Actually, just save yourself the time, expense, AND yawning...and do not buy or watch this movie. Trust me, you'll thank me.

The Coolest Movie In A Long Time
Review created: 10/19/07

I loved this movie (thought Planet Terror sucked and the best thing about it was the Machete trailer). All the little details are right from the soundtrack to casting to dialogue. I thought it was definitely Tarantino's best since at least Pulp Fiction and Kurt Russell was awesome in it. The plot twist totally takes you by surprise and the use of intentionally bad editing is done to perfection. A great movie.

The Ultimate Chick Flick for the Alternative Female
Review created: 11/04/09

Quentin Tarantino does it again!!! This film is a play on 1970's movies and music! Kurt Russell stars as a maniac stuntman with a crazed obsession with killing beautiful women in his "death proof" stunt car!! One of Tarantino's best!!! His combination of sexy women and cars can serve as the ultimate chick flick or the ultimate man flick!! A must see, especially for any QT fan!

  Death proof A+
Review created: 09/15/09

Death Proof is one of those movies that is filmed raw. It has that old movie feel to it without ruining the picture quality. The movie itself has some very good action and gore. In my opinion I thought the acting was very good and the stunts were awesome and the movie was put together very good. The story line made sense and the characters were perfect for the parts they played. I have to say I personally think this is Quentin Tarantino's best work yet. I'm not very good at writing reviews but I hope I helped.
