Really Enjoyable

As an avid Jamie Bell fan, I went into the theater to see Dear Wendy expected nothing more than a subpar film with an excellent performance by Jamie. All the film synopsis that I'd read made the film sound...well...rather awful. Honestly, the publicists for this film did a terrible job because the movie is nothing like the synopsis. There is a unique idea combined with a unique style of filmmaking, combined with wonderful performances from a talented group of young actresses and actors. The story is of Dick (Bell)who spends his short life being a meek and rather unproductive character. His father wants him to work in the mines, but he hasn't the disposition. Only his nanny/maid/mother figure believes that he will be able to achieve anything in life. However, the father dies and the nanny leaves and Dick is on his own in the world. It is only when carry Wendy, a small gun that he thought was a toy, does he feel self-assured and, for lack of a better word, manly. So, he wants his newfound confidence to rub off on the other outcasts in his neighborhood, so he forms a club called the Dandies-- a group of pacifists dedicated to knowing everything they possibly can about guns.
Well... I think we all know where this is headed when a young man just out of jail on parole comes into the picture after killing a man. The Dandies will finally learn the true power of guns. I don't think that everyone will like this movie, however. So, I suggest trying to rent it before buying it.
