The Gurl's Guide To Life, Love, And Your Vagina
Review created: 03/26/08

I wish to god someone had given me this book when I was about 13.

I had a mother who was fairly progressive, and I knew proper names and the entire story of the birds and the bees, but having an actual book that could explain the science behind the changes as well as the different things that your average adolescent girl copes with would have served me very well.

It's got a guide to periods, boobs, boys, and body hair as well as sexual orientation, abuse of all kinds, and relationships with family, friends, and authority.

It's a great read for anyone who is in these stages or would simply like a better explanation of what the hell exactly was "wrong" with you way back when.

As Shirley Manson put it, "It reassures you that you're not nearly as weird or strange as your family and friends tell you you are."

I bought this as a Christmas gift for my 11 year old granddaughter. It deals with virtually every issue that a teen faces. It is comprehensive, but doesn't bog you down with too much information. We started a journal of sorts, she writes me questions in the journal, because she is embarrased to openly discuss some issues, and I rely in writing to her. Her mother is a bury your head in the sand kind of person, and refuses to deal with giving information, and I wanted my granddaughter to be informed about things that she will encounter soon. Some this age are to young, so review it and decide for yourself.
