Deadwood - The Complete First Season (DVD, 2005, 6-Disc Boxed Set)

This series is gritty and real. It seems to depict the true nature of the West early on. Some may think that the language is harsh but that's the way it was. Overall I'd say it is an incredible piece of entertainment, not for the faint of heart and not to be missed !

I am a very big fan of a good western and Deadwood is the best I've seen. I read so many reviews that just complain about the nudity, the horrible foul language and even the gore. This HBO Masterpiece just doesn't hold back in depicting what the west was REALLY like in the 1870's. Deadwood is so authentic in every way. The characters, the wardrobe, the architecture, the whole set! All of it. It's truly like taking a trip back in time. Oh, and the character development. extraordinary! I have seen very very few Westerns with such authenticity. To name the few, the is "Unforgiven" with Clint Eastwood and Morgan Freeman is the only one that comes to mind with the level of authenticity of Deadwood. "Wild Bill", with Jeff Bridges and "The Outlaw Josey Wales" again with Clint Eastwood come close. And finally "Tombstone" almost does it, but was a bit too Hollywoodish. But Deadwood has it all. From the production, direction, writing, wardrobe, character development, casting (Which is ingenious to say the least) and every other part that goes into the making of Deadwood is incredible. HBO's done it with "The Soprano's and now with Deadwood and I haven't even seen their other series shows which I'm sure are also fantastic. So if you want first rate entertainment and a look at what the old west was really like, Deadwood's your show.

Great acting, writing, directing, great sets. Everything about this series is first class. The language is sometimes tiresome and the storyline choppy, but overall, it is a great production. The only negative is that if you are easily offended by language or violence then Deadwod is not for you. It is easily the one of the best programs ever produced/written for TV. Highly recommended.

Deadwood was a fantastic series on HBO. If you don't mind gratuitous usage of the F word, C word, GD, and other curse laden phrases, as well as a plethora of sexual scenes and references, then this is for you! The writing is excellent, and the stories are intense. The characters really bring you into the story.

Having said this, I should have done more research on who was selling the DVD. When it took over 3 weeks to get to me I emailed the seller, who had an American name. The email was in broken, english. It showed up at my door with tons of chinese characters all over it. It was a copy from China. Inside the package was probably the best forgery I have ever seen. Two episodes in to the series, it starts skipping and freezing. Now I have to try to get another DVD.

Please be careful when buying.

Deadwood is one of the best shows that HBO has produced. The plots are very well constructed along with the characters having great dialogs. Each character is well developed and evolves during the season. I hope that they keep this show going; though from the way that it is proceeding I do not need to worry about it being canceled.

I bought it because a friend had a few spisodes on tape that I borrowed and loved it from the first 5 min. The characters are very believable on how things were at that time in history. The storylines are great and I would reccomend this series to anyone!

Deadwood is an excellent series, reviving the classic western with new technology. If you love westerns but want more stunts with better picture and quality Deadwood is for you!

I am a fan of Sex and the City and The Sopranos. I was skeptical of Deadwood, but then watched the first episode of the first season and was hooked on another show by HBO. Deadwood blends fact with fiction to give an amazing story line. Al could be the meanest villian of all time, and give Tony Soprano a run for his money. If you want to truly experience the wild, wild west then I recommend this show. I also like the packaging of the dvd set.

The seller was the type of seller that ebay wants to have. The transaction was smooth and fast. The item was exactly what the seller said it was. I will buy more item from this seller and know that it is what it is.

Wow, what a wonderful show! HBO Productions basically makes 12 hours of movie quality TV and calls it season 1. I never really liked Westerns, but Deadwood is above and beyond the genre. If you tend to shy away from stark language and graphic scenes, this might not be for you. I love this show!

Best written show in past 20 years, I wish they would have made more seasons. This show has the feel of Deadwood and the characters are so complex and interesting.

Brilliant. Great script and the wonderful dialogue was incredibly inventive and often hilarious. The casting, acting, and writing in this first season are second to none. Superb artistic direction and fantastic actors. The way the story is told and the interweaving storylines are incredible. This series is one of the best in the history of television and there's a history lesson or ten in there, somewhere. Best series I've watched, ever.

the deadwood series is very true to how it really was in south dakota at the time the whole series makes you want to watch the movies all the time the language is not for children but i enjoyed the series very much

There is not a single false note in this series. Acting superb - writing (which usually in television is pretty sloppy and marginal) is spectacular - the sets, camera work are top of the line ... if you see nothing else from television, this is the one thing you need to see. We've done some homework online about the historical facts - some of the characters are real people - and it's been done impeccably. If television were like this even 10% of the time - we'd actually watch it occasionally!

This is one of the most unique series to ever hit cable television. If you're cerebral, have a dark wit and a penchant for lyrical verbage, Deadwood is a must. Watch them all!!

A true classic western of the 21st century! An immediate must have, week after week! All of the characters are memorable. You will find yourself quoting them all.

Heard about this HBO movie from a friend so decided to buy. Thoroughly enjoyed the first season and purchased seasons two and three. Some nudity and extreme foul language, but the characters and plot are well worth watching. Highly recommend this show to any western genre viewer.

A gritty view of the old west. This is how you can almost envision what life might have been like. The characters are very well acted, even though it strays from actual history.

I missed this HBO series when it came out and have wanted the collection for some time. Now that I have had a season to start viewing season one I get a chance to see what I really missed out on. The producers did a great job on this one, complete with the language they must have used at the time. I have to view this series with my headphones on when the family is around. All in all this is one great story. Besides with my headphones on I don't miss out on any of the action going on in the background.

Deadwood is a raunchy, hardcore reality of what the old west was really like. It's low-down , dirty portrayals of humanity and their colorful choice of words make the Sopranos seem like Little House on the Prairie. The first season has been an addictive pleasure to watch.

I love Westerns. I am enjoying watching this show. The charactors are entertaining and the plot twists keep you interested and wanting more.

This is not your average western. There is plenty of history, and lots to learn in the midst of all the drama, plots, and sub-plots. Uses real and fictional historic figures for imaginative twists. The Wild West is so much better with foul language, blood and gore, and full frontal nudity.
