Graphics: Breathtaking 9/10
The graphics are make you look twice – you feel as if you are on the ship with Isaac, and even in deep space. Though the levels look similar, you will see the immediate beauty of this game. It is a difficult thing to be consistent, yet differentiate enough to create an entire ship.

Sound: Amazing – 9.5/10
The sounds, music, effects, and voices take you immediately into the game. Surround sound is a must so you can hear the uttering, chanting, and footsteps of the habitants of this game. A lot of time, and thought, went into putting in effective music, parts with no music, and the fell of being utterly alone. The best, yet simplistic feeling is when you go into space for the first time, and all you hear is your own breath and heartbeat.

Gameplay: Spectacular – 9/10
Smooth animations, large – but intuitive levels, smart enemies and A.I., different possibilities for battles and puzzles – without giving anything away, this game is different, and in a good way. Fans of Bioshock and Resident Evil 4 will feel at home with this. The way you kill enemies is really unique, and fun.

Replay Value – Good 7/10
Even without multiplayer, this game has replay value with the Impossible Difficulty, and they mean that. The only issues I have with the replay is that you will know where the “jump out points” are and will be expecting what will happen.

Overall – Perfect 9/10
I am a fan of Survival Horror and the entire genre. When I play this game, I have to say that this isn’t so much survival horror on the Easy to Hard difficulty settings, being that there is plenty of ammo, stores, and save points, but survival Action. Think of this as a sci-fi movie, and that it is more like Aliens as opposed to Alien. The details and ideas that went in this game prove that risks are still being taken in game development, and they pay off.

Though I say this is a “Survival Action” game, it is so much more. It feels as if it is a “best of” game – meaning that they take the best parts of many games such as Bioshock, Resident Evil 4, Prey, and other games that may fall into such a category. The use of in game story telling, and use of a item menu that is in game and in action, gives a whole new approach to playing the game.

The game is not perfect, but close to. The map is annoying to use, and the use of where to go makes the game a bit easier, but for how the story is set up, it works.

It is difficult for a company to release a new IP these days, and have it be successful, and I feel that Dead Space does just that. Enjoy playing this with the lights off.

It creates its own genre. It has elements taken from genres such as RPG, puzzlers, action-adventures, but is not pigeonholed into this experience. Spending time with this game, it is apparent that EA games wanted to create a cinematic and different experience in a game – and make the horror genre prevalent again.

FANS OF RESIDENT EVIL 4 IT IS A MUST HAVE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

PROS: If you love survival horror games then you will love this. Original story line, great voice acting, unique creatures and weapons. This one of the few games that made me jump and scream in fear. It plays like Resident Evil 4, but in the future with more bad ass weapons.

CONS: When you beat the game on the medium difficulty it lets you start over with all your upgraded weapons and cash that you've earned and a level 6 suit. The bummer is that you can't continue with all the goods on the harder difficulty. It only lets you do medium again, if I would have known this I would have beaten it on hard first. Then unlocked the "Impossible" Difficulty and started with all the goods. Other than that I had an amazing time playing this game. This is one of the few that will stand out ahead of its time in the future.

RECOMMENDATION: I highly recommend this game for anyone looking for a sweet one player survival horror game. If you loved Resident Evil 4 you will fall in love with this without a doubt.

Dead Space: An Amazing Survival Horror Experience!
Review created: 10/20/08(updated 10/20/08)

If you like action, horror or survival type video games then THIS is a video game for you!

You are Isaac Clarke, an everyday day average Joe space engineer who just happens to be on the wrong ship at the wrong time. You are sent out with a crew of 3 so visit the USS Ishimura, a very large ship that is called a "planet cracker" and it's sole purpose is to mine planets for valuable resources. Your main objective is to board the Ishimura and repair the assumed problems that the ship has as they can not receive nor send radio transmissions and seem to be having problems with their power.

After boarding the ship via a rough ride you enter a room to find luggage bags and suitcases left behind, the ship was quickly deserted.....or was it?

This game has stunning visuals and audio that helps to create the well done and very amazing atmosphere. As you walk down hallways you can hear things crawling around in vents, items clanging around and metal twisting and turning! This adds to the suspense of the game as you never know if what you are hearing is actually the ship as it floats around in space or a monster!

There are no Head Up Displays (HUD) to be viewed on screen, your health is displayed on Isaac's back on his spine while your ammo remaining is projected on your gun. Your inventory, map, objectives, audio and video logs are all done in real time. There is no pausing the game to see what items you have nor does the game pause when you get a video or audio log! This means that when you are finding out about your next objectives (audio or video) you can still move around, pick up items and fight as the video floats around in front of you! This helps drive the story and keep you immersed in the world as nothing takes you away from the action within the game. This means that you can also be attacked at pretty much anytime within the game! Checking your inventory? Make sure the area is cleared out or you might be attacked when you least expect it and trust me when I say that it does happen!

Since everything happens in real time and does not drive you away from danger it really adds to the atmosphere and draws you into the game as you are never really truly safe.

If you are on the fence about this game I suggest you at least rent it as it is an amazing game that provides roughly 12-15 hours to beat and it really draws you in! Plus, it has great replay value with an added difficulty once beaten and the option of playing again with all the items and money you collected!

Thanks for reading!

  Dead Space - For PS3

The only game in the "survival horror" genre I have ever played is Resident Evil 4 (since then - RE5 & Left 4 Dead)). For the most part they are these type of games are just poorly done, put in some "Shock appeal" for eye candy and wrap it all up in terrible game play. If you have similar feelings about Horror games and have decided not to play Dead Space, YOU HAVE MADE A HUGE MISTAKE! Dead Space is the first game I have ever started paying for a second time the minute I finished the game. I dont need to go into details all I need to add is, go buy this game.

This game will get under your skin. The first ten minutes felt like an eternity. Obviously for me the game felt really long probably because I had to stop and step away for a bit to gather myself. GET IT.

Interesting Game with POOR Game play.

I didn't care for the game at all, for me moving the character around must be intuitive, it must feel natural. In this game before you even understand how to move the character around, your being killed by scary monsters. Your praying to make it to the next save location without being killed, and in the end you keep saying to yourself, I paid good money to feel this way! I stopped the game 20 minutes in and decided this was not for me, Game developers must have a tutorial, and the movement of character must be better than this. Please use this as model for what not to do, doesn't matter if you had a good story to tell, I couldn't get that far to appreciate it.

This is a very good game as far as terrifying. If u like the resident evil serious and other games that deal with fright, then u will love this game as every turn will have u alittle nervous plus the eerie sounds that the monster make as they crawl through the vents as in any way to frighten u or try to get u cause they is no where to run and hide, the only survival is to fight back and get better weapons.

This is a very good game. The story line and characters are fairly standard. Basically you and the mission exist for you to kick alien butt with an array of different weapons.

Good graphics!

Great Game That Justifies Game of the Year Candidacy
Review created: 12/27/08

Great game, equally good reviews all around. Not for those who are easily scared since this game can easily spook you at times. If you can't play Silent Hill, Fatal Frame, F.E.A.R., or other horror survival games, you may be easily scared while playing this one. It's a great game overall though, but not perfect. Easily justifies the candidacy for Game of the Year 08.

Fun and scary all at the same time. Not for kids. Save yourself and the spaceship from monsters, asteroids, crazy scientists, gravity and zero gravity, and with limited oxygen. Fun and challenging.

  One word...INTENSE!!
Review created: 12/09/08
1 of 1 people found this review helpful.

INTENSE is the word that I would use to describe this game. There were times when I could feel the hair on the back of neck stand up; there were times when I, literally, hollered out loud because something jumped out at me; there were times when I felt like my heart was about to jump right out of my chest. This is one of the best Shooters that I've played this year (RSV-2 was the best). It is a very unique experience in that it is presented in a cinematic style that I don't think I've seen in any other game. My suggestion: lock the doors, turn off the lights and make sure you go to the bathroom before you start playing. Otherwise, this game may make you go on yourself...

Rich story line. The horror never stops. Better than resident evil. The Weapon system is pretty good too. Easy to change and reload button is at nice place too. Overall the game have some very nice controls. I just wish they have quick 90 degree turn button. It can come in handy when there are too many foes coming at you.

  Dead Space
Review created: 11/02/09
by:

Knowing EA for all there great and bad is a must before being able to say anything about this game. This must be one of the most overlooked games thats ever been in my gaming world. If you like the R.E. series (Resident Evil) you'll most-likely love this game.Graphics are amazing, guns are crazy cool with their primary fire and alternative fire modes. If space is your thing (and pissing your pants every 8 minutes), pick this up. If your more into the down-to-earth I would personally pick up R.E.5.! I give this game a 4 out of 5.
