The Game that you play for HOURS

Wow, this game was fun. I finally completed all 50 Achievements, and had to write a review for the game.

To start, this game will require you to play through like 4 times in order to see everything. Plus, when you add the other two modes. Hours just fly by. The graphics, game play, story, and all around fun of the game make it worth your time. For those who love the Zombie killing games, this one beats all of them. Rather than the usually Gun, bow, sword, etc. You are open to ANY item the Mall provides. Run to the gym and grab a dumb bell, jump to the food court and make a smoothie, fry a pan on the stove to burn off a Zombie's face. And don't even get me started on the Home Depot type store where you can use a shower head on a Zombie to drain out their blood from their head.

Overall, the game is very graphic and should not be played by the young or those who don't like a lot of blood. There is no limit to what is possible when it comes to killing a Zombie, so keep that in mind when you go to purchase this game.

This game started as just something to pass the time. Then as I started to get into it, I couldn't put it down. I kept wanting to complete another part of the game and unlock something new. Some of the unlockable items include Mega Man's FULL outfit including his Arm Cannon, which in the game is called the Real Mega Buster. This weapon holds 300 shots and can one hit kill just about any being in the game including most bosses. You can also unlock a 'Laser' sword similar to a lightsaber that cuts through Zombies like grass.

The best part about the game is the fact that you are totally in a Mall that makes you feel like a real Mall in your own town. How cool would it be to go in and take any item you want from any store and use it as a weapon? Plus it doesn't leave out anything that might be in a current shopping Mall. They have a food court, rollercoaster, movie theater, outdoor park, gym, sports shop, gun shop, blade shop, supermarket, and five different book stores filled with books that you can hold in your inventory to enhance different aspects in the game.

So, have I given you enough?? Go out and give this game a try. You will NOT be sorry.

So much potential, such bad mechanics...
Review created: 08/10/06

Let's take a killer concept (hundreds of zombies in a shopping mall) and some great weapons (literally grab ANYTHING you can reach to kill the undead) and completely ruin it with bad game mechanics. That's "Dead Rising" to a "T"!

The game is saddled with unrealistic bosses, ridiculous deadlines, a constantly-ringing communicator, and no real time to just explore and take full advantage of the incredibly rich environment that Capcom has developed. You want to just aimlessly wander around the mall trying to stay alive? Forget it-- that's just in the Xbox Live demo. The game is chock full of time-sensitive quests and missions with no real downtime whatsoever. Of course this shouldn't be a problem as long as you save your game, right?

WRONG! Capcom felt the need to saddle the game with a completely broken save system. First off, you have only ONE save per profile. Secondly, you can only save your game in a few physical locations in the mall. This means that sometimes you'll lose precious time running to a save point just so that you can keep your game to continue later. There are no checkpoints, no auto-saves-- nothing. Oh yeah, and if you miss one of those time-sensitive deadlines I mentioned earlier you have to RESTART the entire game as you are suddenly locked out of the storyline. There is no option to just run around and explore-- you are forced back to day 1, minute 1 all over again.

Dead Rising is one of the greatest examples of a brilliant concept that was completely and utterly ruined by heinous execution. Everything that people really wanted from the previews and the demos just isn't here. Instead, you have a contrived "beat the clock" game with unrealistic bosses (people who can fire a .50 calibre sniper rifle while standing and use it as a melee weapon), poor save mechanics, and a "race the clock" format that sucks ALL of the fun out of this game.

Most people seem to be going "ga ga" for it but I'm just trying to recoup some of my money by selling this game back on Ebay.

I love hack and slash games. Dead rising delivers. Bloody decapitations, gore and guts, bludgeoning and smashing. Sound good? This game is for you. This is a twist from the same old hack and slash games of the past due to the 360's power. The game graphics are smooth and clean but can get slightly repetitive. Get past that and you have a fun game that will have you laughing for hours and hours.

Dead Rising, Buy it at full price or wait?

Good Game! Second, could Wait.
I played the demo and was amazed and so hyped about the actual game that when it released I grabbed it at full retail. I played it, getting the hang of the game, the "save game" feature takes some getting use to, the game is timed and one thing stands out, lots and lots of zombie.

Yeah, its a good game, grabbing stuff and killing zombies. Grab a bench, run straight into a horde and level up. Gun is okay, but a baseball bat or a knife is my favorite. The ever-ringing radio (off switch?)and theres dialogue, but in little itty bitty blurry text, its hard to read. There are the cut scenes and some words spoken, but most of the in-game dialogue with other people are in text. Tiny little text.
Actually when I played through the first few times, I went 'nuts' like a GTA 'crime-spree' and blazed new trails through zombies, its great! Freelance photographer. Freelance. Free to go crazy - Don't mind if I do! :)

The game is a great collectible for zombie fans, I enjoy zombie games, both good games and crappy games like 'Fiddlers' but I still buy, play and keep them. Its worth a rental, you like it then buy it.

Dead Rising, who knew that shopping could be this fun!
Review created: 09/01/06

I had been watching Dead Rising for about a year before it came out, way back when Capcom was designing it. Since then I knew that it would be an awesome game, and I was right!

I got a 360 the day before Dead Rising came out in preparation, Dead Rising is one of the main reasons I got the Xbox 360, and I think it was worth the $60 price tag that came with it.

First off it has tremendous replay value, I myself have beat the 72-hour mode game four times, and overtime twice. The first time through you can do only the main missions, the second just side missions, the third anything else, or try to go for some of the games wide variety of achievements.

There are 50 achievements each worth 20 points, some are challenging, some are not, and some are just plain fun! They keep you coming back to try and complete them all. Unlike PDZ where its achievements are in increments of 10, 100, 1000, making them rather dull, Dead Rising has a range of points, from eating all the food, wearing all the clothes, beating bosses, saving people, bowling for zombies, or killing 53,594 of them.

But if it's just non-stop zombie killing madness you want just beat overtime mode to unlock infinite mode, where you go head to head with not only endless zombies but also all the survivors, and bosses, you've encountered. Don't just stand around in the corner, because your health is always declining, and you must search from plaza to plaza, from store to store to find food to feed yourself, but all the humans you defeat drop food to help you on your never-ending quest.

By far the best, coolest and most unique feature in Dead Rising is its weaponry, which consists of, well, anything, and I mean anything. Capcom boasts that the game contains 250 plus weapons. They range from guns to your normal zombie killers (bats, knifes, swords) and the truly bizarre like Frisbees, mega man blasters, cash registers, benches, trashcans, and king salmons.

So if you’re into random zombie killing with fantastic weapons or great storylines, Dead Rising is the game for you! BUT if you don't take my work for it, try it before you buy it; just download the FREE DEMO from the Xbox 360's marketplace!

Hope this helped, and happy zombie hunting!

You are freelance photographer dropped off in a mall with a whole town full zombies. You then have 72 hours to run around the mall before you are picked up by the chopper that dropped you off. As soon as you enter the mall, the killing begins. You are given missions that you can either do or not. The whole time you are killing zombies with whatever you have near. The gun and knife are the obvious weapons; try using the lawnmower, umbrella, pipe, or brick. You can use anything. The game is about killing.

PROS:

Great fun to play.
Unique game play, and story line.
Doesn't get boring for a looooooong time.

CONS:

A bit too short.
Save system will annoy some players.

THE RATINGS:
Graphics: 9.3/10
Audio: 8.5/10
Game Play: 9.0/10
Story: 8.7/10
Life Span: 8.4/10

  Awesome Zombie Killing Spree!

When I first bought this game as my first Xbox 360 game, I wasn't sure how I would handle it - it looked kind of cheap, but when I started playing it really amazed me how well done it was!

GAMEPLAY: Riddiculously fun. You can go on the main story, which has you complete timed missions, save survivors trapped in the mall, where you have to escort people to safety, or just go on a zombie killing spree. Either way, they're all fun and challenging.

SOUND: Not much music in the game except for certain events, but its okay. Lots of gorey sound effects though.

GRAPHICS: VERY nice graphics and visuals. The zombies look real!

STORY: Great story. Each mission you unravel why the zombie outbreak occured so you can write about it for some newspaper.

REPLAY VALUE: The game will leave you playing for hours. There are many different endings, and once you spend hours getting the perfect ending you get a new different mode which lets you explore outside the mall! Even with those completed, its just fun to play around and kill zombies.

OVERALL: A must to bye. Lots of violence, awesome story - a thumbs-up.

READ THIS IF INTRESTED IN GAME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Review created: 10/09/06

OK,lets start with the 1 problem lots of people think is such a bad thing-saving-its not as bad as everyone thinks, you just need to know where the save places are,example-(close to the entrance of the movie theater after you go into it)if you know where most of them are then that shouldn't be a problem.
next, it is a challenging game in some parts like a couple of the bosses can be tough at first.Just running in the mall can be a little hard too, because zombies could reach out and bite you.Butt overal it is the best game ive played in a while.
The songs in the game are awsome, the sounds are pretty cool, the graphics are really good, and the gameplay is great. If the game gets too hard for,you can play it as much as possible and get as many level ups for Frank as you can then restart the game and you will have the same level ups, clothes, everything, then you play it all over again and get as many level ups as you can and resart it again until your character is good enough to get through whatever part you were stuck at.
Another little problem is you can only have 1 saved game on dead rising which means if you play it and then restar the game and save the new game,it will automaticcaly overwrite your old game.

I have beat the game twice and my chararcter is at the max, level 50,only because i kept restarting it. There are about a million weapons you can use,but once you get to at least level 30 on your character, you won't want to use weapons because fighting with your hands is so fun but a little more dangerouse. The whole game is in the mall so you cant go outside, except there is a big park in the middle of the mall where hundreads of zombies walk around.and it is impossible to kill all the zombies because they respaw whenever you leave the area.
There are lots of weapons,some are very helpful and some don't do crap, example,(all the guns,chainsaws,sledgehammers,lead pipes,soccerballs,swords,shopping carts,lawn mowers,baseball bats,guitars ect....)are helpful.And (buckets,showerheads,teddy bears,toy guns,spitting,plastic lightsabers ect....)are crap.
The only way to get health is by eating food.
You are allowed to drive cars, motorcycles, bikes, and a little rollercoaster ride that gives you extra points.
Dont let anyone tell you that this is a bad game or not to bye it,because it is a GREAT GAME.
Tips:
1-One of the best weapons you can have besides guns are sledgehammers, they can hurt bosses badly.
2-If you get to a boss that you cant beat, then get the machinegun turrent on the back of the phsycos truck,it will kill any boss in about 3 seconds if you hit them enough.
3-Dont stop and kill zombies if you are trying to get somewhere specific, because it will consume time and health.
4-Before actually starting any missions,go explore to find the hidden gun shops, hardware stores, and bathrooms.
5-Dont rely on pistols for anything except having fun shooting zombies when you have alot of ammo, because they are not very powerful.

Thanks for reading and i hope this helped.

This game is really fun, killing zombies with whatever you want. The DEMO is ALOT funner than the actual game. I have played this game for around 4 hours and gotten nowhere since it is REALLY hard to find a saving point. Every time you die, you START OVER! This game really frustrates me!!!

This game is really fun, except saving is the WORST I have every saw, you can ONLY save in a bathroom or security room, which are very hard to find.... This game is not worth buying, but is definitely worth renting or downloading the demo.

One Million Ways to Kill a Zombie!!!
Review created: 10/06/06
3 of 5 people found this review helpful.

Dead Rising is the most zombie packed game in the world. Never have I seen so many people on the sreen. Pushing through crowds and crowds of zombies elbow to elbow can make for a frustrating time, especially if they are hungry and these are blood thirsty. Controls are solid enough and graphics are some of the best on the 360 considering how many people they can get on the screen. Before the main game is over you will have killed thousands of zombies not even really trying. That's just trying to get through them. Cool kung-fu moves allow you to clear the way along with some sweet melee weapons. Guns are rare up until the end. But using them to blow stuff up is a lot of fun. You will have to make your way through the mall using anything you can find and have an option to help out survivors along the way. They are pretty stupid AI though and are always doing something that will end up getting them killed. There is also the annoying real time system that only lets you play for a limited amount of time until you can unlock infinite mode which is not half as fun as the 72 hour mode. There just isn't enough going on in infinite mode and 72 hour mode can almost go too fast sometimes. But after you practice enough you will become a master zombie evader. Keep in mind the game is an elaborate gore-fest. So if you're not the type that can hold your stomach, either don't play or keep a large bucket nearby. IF you can handle the blood and love killing zombies you will love this game. Not perfect but certainly a one of a kind masterpiece. Must buy for fans of the genre. All others rent before you buy. 4/5

  Dead Rising - The Reason I bought a 360
Review created: 09/11/06
3 of 3 people found this review helpful.

When I heard about Dead Rising, I was instantly enthralled with the idea of being trapped in a mall with virtually anything as a weapon, surrounded by endless hordes of flesh-eating ZOMBIES.

I was so excited, I went out and bought a Premium Xbox 360 System, just for Dead Rising. Needless to say, I was NOT DISAPPOINTED!!!

There are a few unique aspects to Dead Rising as a game:

1. The Save System - You save by stopping by the security office couch, bathroom stalls, and later in the game, a "secret hideout". Needless to say, these save spots can seem few and far between at times, but as you begin to become more familiar with the layout of the mall, you will find that there are plenty of opportunities to save your progress.
Another interesting feature of the save system is that in the game, you level up your character, much like an RPG by gaining PP (prestige points). When you die, you are given the choice to load your last saved game, or start the game completely over and keep your same character level. I realized that while this may seem like a hassle in the beginning, to have to do the same missions over and over again, it makes it easier to obtain the highest level, level 50, which gives you significant abilities compared to level one.

2. You Can use almost anything as a weapon! - There range a myriad of weapons in Dead Rising, from Pistols, Shotguns, Axes, Swords, to benches, potted plants, and even cardboard boxes (completely ineffective).

3. - Unique Endings & Multiple Endings - There is one true ending, and it will definitely surprize you, but for less hardcore gamers, there are a total of 6 endings that will in some occasions upset, but ultimately end the story.

Bottom Line: - DEAD RISING WAS WORTH BUYING A 360 FOR

Summary of Great Qualities of Dead Rising:
1. Unique Save System
2. Unique Story Line
3. Ability to use almost anything as a weapon
4. Multiple Endings & A GREAT TRUE ENDING!!!

All it's cracked up to be
Review created: 08/30/06

This game is everything I had hoped it would be. Gameplay is fairly smooth and controls are accurate. The aiming system could have used some work, it is difficult to manipulate, and the controls are different for the camera and the gun(or any other projectile objects). A similarity of control for these two major facets of the game would dramatically improve gameplay. The usable weapons in the game (of which there are hundreds, nay, thousands) all have a unique feel and timing to master which keeps plowing through the thousands of enemies interesting and entertaining.

The graphics are excellent, especially considering the quantity of objects and enemies on the screen. The draw distance is a little short for some of the environments, making some characters pop out of nothing as you approach them, but this is such a minor quirk for this title that it shouldn't hinder gameplay.

Sounds.. .well they're there. Voiceovers are unique and well done, but not nearly used enough. The game's mission assignment system, which utilizes the cell phone to call in orders (ala GTA San Andreas) uses nothing but subtitles, which can be difficult to read when you are trying to keep track of the zombie hordes that are quickly closing in. Voiceovers on the cell phone calls in addition to the subtitling would add a lot of quality to these mission assignments.

Overall this game is a great value. It can be replayed with various modes and your previous characters transferred back into your new games. There are enough side missions and easter eggs to warrant at least a couple of playthroughs. As always, Xbox 360 games are overpriced, and at 60.00 this makes a pricey (but very worthwhile) addition to any collection.

This is a good game but also one of the most frustrating.
Pros
1. Various wepons and could PARTITALLY wander off.
2. People to save and you could end your story differently b who you save or not.

Cons
1. Save System
You must be in a certain spot to save so if you die you start over a lot of times. To avoid this right before a boss you have to go save.
2. Small Text
I have trouble reading the text on my big screen t.v

Great Fun And Already Free Downloadable Content !!!

This game is great...

So many different ways to play it - You can follow the "main missions" and/or the "side missions" and/or "rescue hostages" and/or do none of that!

There's over 200 weapon items, a number of vehicles, apperal to wear, and all kinds of zombies on-screen. The entire mall has a number of floors, all kinds of unique stores, and you can enter each and every one of them!

There's already some 6-8 free 'pieces' of downloadable content on Xbox Live, too, with much more to come!

All in all this game is amazing. The *only* complaint I have is it not having any kind of multiplayer, but the fact of the matter is that I don't know how they'd do multiplayer. Too many games these days have multiplayer just for the sake of having it, and the end result is that in a large number of those games it stinks and is no fun. So maybe it's better that there's no multiplayer, right? I think so. I'm 100% confident that if they put in some kind of multiplayer that people would only find it boring and ultimately "diss" the game because of it.

The game is extremely violent and bloody, making it definately not for children (in my opinion).

As I said, you can play it many ways. The most fun way, really, is to just run around the mall and various stores trying on different outfits and using 100's of different items to kill countless amounts of zombies (there's literally 1000's of zombies in the mall, making it impossible to kill them all).

You really, REALLY, feel like you're in a shopping mall in this game because the graphics are astounding, each store is unique, and the layout/design of the mall is unbelievable.

Players trying to complete every single task or objective in the game may find it frustrating, though, as some of them can be difficult or time-consuming.

5/5 vote from me. Capcom has a winner on their hands with this game for sure!

So, just as you would have imagined, there are a ton of zombies to kill but there's a catch... There's a time limit and it gets harder as the game progresses and by night time, they are inhumanly strong. There are a lot of weapons to use to kill these "zombies" but the fighting system is a little iffy. You can take a picture of just about anything and there are some funny moments. Lots of different NPC's you can meet, talk to, and save. The one thing I hated the most was the save system. You only have one slave slot and can only save in predetermined locations... What a rip. Overall, this game is worth renting but don't buy it, unless you feel a bit adventurous.

I'm not too serious about gameplay so I'm not going to write about Game Theory and act like I'm some mathematician discussing developer code and game mechanics.. (like my older brother) The zombie theme is hooky to begin with and this game is pretty fun despite the timed quests and the save feature, this is especially true with the survival extra part of the game, why no save? I have to stop, leave my 360 on overnight then wake up, go to school, come back to it later to continue the sruvival part of the game.

I started playing this game and had some frustrations about gameplay when I started, but when I leveled up (thats a first! gotta to level up)and max at 'fitty'.. started getting use to the zombie A.I., Boss battle A.I. and where things were located, game time and triggers. I got a better feel for the controller, my game improved. Right now, my complaint about the save feature isn't so bad and in fact I'm ahead of the timed quests and I've successfully dispatched several bosses using only a hunting knife, the gun store guy is a little tricky and I'm still working on that liquor-boss man and the motorcycle girl fight was a little tough but finally got her (most bosses have a predictable pattern)

My first impression was 'WTF! Aw man, come on! Thats total B.S.!" then having to restart the whole friggin mission, I complained but once I got use to it, its not so bad, I'm getting good at it, its kind of funny when I show various ways to rid the mall of zombies, to my friends, my sis and my parents.
I hope they release a Dead Rising 2 and acknowledge all of these issues, especially the save issue and improve that stupid ‘Saint’ Achievement, I busted my 'a' saving all these people and I thought I would unlock some special armor or special ammo belt, or backpack to carry more stuff, all I get is a dumb cop hat! That achievement needs to be repaired!

Another thing why do the unreadable fonts suck and if I can’t read it, why didn’t the game give that annoying STFU janitor two ingame options, a speaking subtitles option and a turn-off switch to the walkie talkie. Oh eyah and force survivors to defend themselves and they need to ‘help’ carry or assist other wounded/stupid survivors while I clean a path ahead.

Well, anyway despite all of these annoying things, I’ve improved my game a lot and I think when I first played this I was disappointed but once I got use to it, its okay. I wonder if they release Dead Rising 2, hopefully they will remove all the crud and improve on it.

I know a lot of people don’t care for this type of game, but if you’re an undead zombie fan, then I think you might like this game. I like it. I played it through Gamefly then went out and bought myself a copy from EBGames.

Try it you might (no guarantees) like it once you get the gist of it. Sucks at first but abilities improve as one gets better controller control, or you could still suck at it and hate it. Cant know unless you try it. My suggestion, play Tomb Raider: Angel of Darkness, complete that game if you can (without snapping that game disk in half or losing your sanity) and come back to play Dead Rising and you'll realize "Wow! This Dead Rising isn't so bad after all!"

But we'll see how well it compares to Resident Evil 5 when RE5 releases

I thought the demo of this game was great, but when it comes to actually playing the real thing - its lacking. The story can be hard to follow simply because of the small size of the font used for the dialog. The time limits placed on your saps takes all of the zombie killing fun that I loved in the demo. Now the zombies are just a source of stress. The saving system sucks because of the limited save points, and the time you waste getting to them.

Most of the time that I spend playing this game is just messing with the different 'weapons' in the mall to see how they work. Unfortunately, this justs wastes time as far as story advancement is concerned. Too bad, the story seems like it could be cool, but I don't think I'll be playing this game to the end. most likely will become eBay fodder.

This games rules! I didn't get to play it myself, but I got to watch someone play it. There are so many things you can use in the environment and one of my favorite things is that the environment is carried on through the cinematics. For example in one part of the game the person I was watching put a cartoon block head on the main character and this was on the character's head during the cinematic. It was hilarious and it is just awesome to see all sorts of things in a mall be used as a weapon against zombies.
Awesome game, I wish I had it!

  Dead Rising: A review

Great game and a lot of fun with only a few annoying flaws. First off, this game is worth getting. With an open environment, multiple ending, and countless zombies it is what it is----survival. It is a very enjoyable game, choosing who to save and who not to save, while trying to uncover the origin of the zombies. With so many varied weapons and so many learnable moves, fighting and killing zombies stays fresh. AFter reading some of the reviews above, I wanted to set anyone considering this game straight. Below are the pros and cons of this game

Pros:
Open environment
1000's of weapons
Interesting storyline
Fun, exciting gameplay
Multiple missions and Overtime mode once complete
Level Ups and Experience Pts

Cons:
1)You won't have time to save everyone and you have to be rushed to finish cetain missions
2)You do have time restaints, meaning you don't always have the "free time" you want because you only have certain times to finish the main mission. You will have someone to save but have to leave them behind so your time limit to complete the main mission doesn't end
3)VERY annoying walkie-talkie call---My one true issue with the game was the way info is given to you. Basically a man calls you with info. The annoying fact is he calls every few seconds and if you fight off a zombie in mid-call, he calls back, starts completely over, and complains that you cut him off. This will get old pretty quickly.
4)Awful survivor A.I.--You save people and must lead them back to a safe room. While fighting off zombies to protect these people, you will have one survivor running into a wall, knocking themselves down. You will have a survivor "get scared" and run fron the area with no zombies and run into a hoard of 20 zombies to their death. You will have a survivor fall info the mall's steam, about 6 inches below the normal playing surface, and they can't jump the 6 inches to get away. They just run into the 6 inch wall. At time you will find yourself killing survivors just out of spite--no real people could be this stupid.

Myths:
The save system is fine: You can save at multiple points and the game autosaves when certain key missions are completed. Also the majority of storylines occur right next to a save site. No issue here.

The fighting stays pretty fresh and though there are only so many ways to kill zombies, it stays fun.

I bought the game after playing the demo and have not been disappointed. Just by prepared for the walkie talkie issue and you should really enjoy this game if you are a fan of this genre.

Not as good as it could've been

Gosh, from the commercials on this thing, you would've thought it was the second coming of the original Resident Evil, but this game was far from that level of excellence. I think the more I think on this game the more disappointed I become in it.
The game is was too involved, way too hard (once you get into to it) and way too large to be worth you wasting your time in playing. As you may know, the fun part of this game ... besides getting to run free in a HUGE mall and take and use whatever you want once you're inside ... is that "everything is a weapon" in your quests throughout the mall. That means everything from the park benches on the mall courtyard, to the cooking grease in one of the malls several fast food joints. You can even sneak your character into one of the many clothing shops and change his attire.
All this may sound like fun, but once you get into the real gameplay, you find it's just not enough. After the 7:15 witching hour, the zombies become too numerous, too strong and WAY too fast. You eventually get to the point where no matter what weapon you have, or how fast you run, you just can't save the people you're sent out to save. You're given weapons (like a 4' long lead pipe) that somehow end up running out on you and disappearing in the middle of a firefight. This is where the frustration sets in and the gameplay becomes tiring and tedious. It's just too much. No matter how fast, or far, you run you always end up getting ambushed by the unending hordes of the undead.
