DeLonghi EC155 Espresso Machine

First of all, this machine is known to be the first small, affordable machine with good creme. The problem is, it is not real creme, it just looks like it. Real creme has a very smooth consistency, and this imitation creme is full of very small air bubbles, but is the correct color. Secondly, virtually as soon as you get started with anything, and I do mean anything, the light indicating that the water temperature is correct goes off. Now it is time to stop the process, and wait for the light to go back on, because whether making espresso, or frothing milk, water temperature is very critical to the finished product. This is obviously not the machine to make that bowl of espresso for terra misu. I should mention at this point that standard sized cups do not fit under this machine's hood. It is designed strictly for those tiny demitasse cups, and if it is cappuccino, or latte you want, and the drink is destined for a larger cup eventually, well then, it is just one more cup to buy and clean, and one more step in the process to allow your coffee to get cold. Lastly, the tube, as it is called, that is the thing sticking off the side of the machine for frothing milk seems to be more intended for convenience of delivery, than to making froth, as it has a light spring which makes it want to turn back into the machine, where it hibernated in storage. I said this was the last thing, but I did forget one last item, and that is again, the frothing devise. their is a plastic devise that screws onto the tube, presumably a froth enhancer of some sort, and because it expands at a different rate than the steel tube that it screws onto, it leaks from above, thereby diluting the milk with water that isn't serving the purpose of frothing- in fact, it serves no purpose- it is simply a leak. This apparatus, unfortunately, is also woefully too short to accommodate even pitchers of modest height, so one is left struggling to heat the milk on the bottom of the pitcher without spilling the frothing milk out. All together, an adequate machine at the price, with good tasting finished product, but designed for someone with a lot of time and patience.

This unit is one of the best espresso makers you can buy for the price. I finally found one on eBay and got it for $40.00 including shipping!!
It makes AWESOME espresso and tons of the "crema" that espresso aficionados like on top of their brew. I highly recommend this unit. It retails for about $140.00 but I've seen others selling them on eBay from $50.00 - $100.00. I think I lucked out on getting one for $40.00. That's a STEAL!!

I was naive and didn't realize I was buying a used product (page didn't say either way). The espresso machine leaks and makes weak espresso; I didn't get all the parts;the seller won't return my emails; and the warranty is invalid because I bought it on eBay. However, as regards the espresso machine itself, I don't know if I have a defective one or if they are all like mine! Since the seller won't return my emails and the manufacturer won't honor the warranty, I am just stuck with a useless machine. Needless to say, I am very disappointed. I didn't even consider buying the replacement machine from eBay.

I ordered a DeLonghi EC155 after reading many positive reviews. The thing I do not like about this machine is that I cannot make my coffee strong enough. Even the large coffee grounds holder is too small to hold enough coffee for a really strong cup.

This espresso machine makes a rich coffee with lots of crema. It's simple to use. The instructions tell you to heat up the machine by making coffee twice, once with water and once with coffee... This is absurd. The machine makes perfectly good, hot coffee the first time around. Be prepared to play around with the machine until you find out exactly how it makes the best coffee for you.

Makes great coffee, easy to use and easy to clean! My wife drinks a cup of coffee in the morning before going to work and this DeLonghi machine make a great coffee fast! I would recommend this DeLonghi EC155 Espresso Machine to anyone, who expects more out of a regular home appliance!

Been using the DeLonghi for 3 months now on a daily basis, brewing 2 to 4 espresso cups a day. We have no complaints, warms up quickly.

I compared other pump driven machines in the $100 and under price bracket and decided upon this based on the great reviews. I'm so glad I chose this one. This machine produces a very decent shot of espresso with such a lovely rich creme. I hope my review is helpful to someone else trying to decide. I definitely recommend this espresso maker.

I bought this as my first espresso machine, and it has performed admirably. If you are looking for a quality, reliable machine with basic features that will fit into pretty much any budget, I would definitely recommend this one. Even though it is a "lower end" machine, it is solidly built, and nothing about it feels cheap. The included instructions are clear and concise, and were a great help to me, as I was a newcomer to the world of espresso. As far as actual operation, the boiler heats up quickly, the water reservoir is adequate and easily removable, and as long as you know what you're doing with grinding and tamping, it makes an excellent cup of espresso every time. The steam nozzle works well, but if the machine is placed directly on the counter top, there is little room beneath the nozzle, and it could be difficult to find a container shallow enough to fit beneath it. This is easily fixed by setting it on a short box or other platform, though. The major shortcoming of this machine, in my mind, is that it only has one boiler, which much be switched from espresso temperature to steam temperature. This seriously limits the number of steamed-milk-based drinks it can make in a given time, since the boiler must heat up for steam and cool down for espresso for each drink made, a process which easily takes 15 minutes. This makes it essentially a personal espresso maker, and not a good choice if you plan to regularly serve multiple people. Overall, though, it's a great choice for the price, I'm definitely glad I bought it, and I would recommend it to anyone looking for a well-made, inexpensive basic espresso maker.

For years I used a Mini Krups espresso maker and now I'm finding out what I've been missing, this DeLonghi makes wonderful coffee! FAR AND ABOVE what I'm used to and it's so easy to use, it's a no-brainer people. As long as you are willing to turn it on and let it warm up for at least 20 minutes, a little longer if possible, you will get the best cup of coffee you've ever had. I'm thrilled with this purchase. If you're having doubts, cast them aside, go for it.

So easy to use and the espresso is so smooth! Much better than other machines I have used in the past. The option for a single or double serving is a great option. Steamer attachment makes great frothy milk.

Delonghi..........Delighted. Good machine, fast and easy to use. Shipper was on the money, could not be better.

Product is very good for the money and worth the 15 min it takes to pre-heat the unit. Heats well and makes enough espresso for a party! Only problem is the foaming nozzle that is solid plastic. When taking it both off & on black plastic shreds come off & get in the milk. The nozzle needs a threaded insert.

Makes Great drinks. Easy to use and clean. Nice depth so you can use a bigger cup. Only problem is that it will leak if you leave water in it. I really like it though, and would probably buy it again given the opportunity.

This makes excellent espresso with a beautiful crema. However the milk frother is pretty lame. The angle of the wand doesn't get into the bottom of the milk pitcher far enough to do the job. It steams the milk but it never gets frothy. Also, as others have said, we had to buy a different tamper. The one that comes with this is worthless.

I have never owned an Espresso machine, until this one, it took longer to get out of the box than it took to learn to operate. The system heats up qiuck after each cup, and the frother wand works good, but will probaly do better once I have used it a few times. I would BUY this machine again.

What prompted me to buy this machine was primarily the price. It had the features I was looking for such as a power pump (15 bars) and the ability to make several espressos in a row. It produces a decent cup of espresso, especially for a machine with such a low price tag. I like the built-in tamper too. It comes in quite handy so I don't have to find my manual tamper. A couple things I think are less than desirable are: The distance between the espresso nozzles and the cup tray in not nearly big enough for even a regular size coffee cup, much less a large mug like I prefer. You have to use an espresso shot glass or small espresso cup (neither is included) to be short enough to fit in the small space it allows for a cup. The other thing I dislike somewhat is the smaller capacity of the water tank. It's about half of that of other models I compared with this one. Other than the size issues it's not a bad machine. I wouldn't pay over $100 for this machine, however. There are better choices for not much more money than that with far better features.

After cleaning this machine as instructed (upon removing it from its packing box), I found this instruction not only needed for starting with a clean espresso maker, but this also allows the new user to become acquainted with its operation (very necessary).
We have roasted our own beans for several years, grinding a small amount every morning for regular coffee. What initally interested me in brewing espresso was an article in an Awake! magazine on the subject of espresso and its flavors generated by some 500 different processes that take place in a green coffee bean when roasted for espresso. Noting the skill needed to make a GOOD cup of espresso also showed me that there must be a reason why some espresso drinkers become so excited over this type of brew.
This DeLonghi model is reasonably priced and has produced some nice cups of the coffee espresso for our family, better than what I have often had at shoppes in our visits to Italy or France. Yes, do purchase a set of espresso cups and saucers to allow the cups to be easily placed under the machine's spouts. Also, consider using the heated water to heat the cups before filling (I use the adjacent microwave to heat the cups with a small amount of water in each cup, this saving the heated water in the espesso machine for brewing more espresso.
This is a good machine for a reasonable price, cleans easily, heats water quickly enough, easy to tamper the ground beans.... all these were some negative points I read about before my purchase. Those negatives all disappeared when we learned how to operate this model EC155.

Purchased this for my daughter who lives in the typical college dorm. It is compact but delivers a pretty good shot of espresso without too much trouble. She has said that it brings a little too much traffic to her room sometimes...guess that speaks well of the EC155.

good bang for buck... Delivered fast and great service. Excellent addition to any coffee or espresso connoisseur.
