Very simple to install, however the effort is not worth it. This item does not put out any more heat than a lot of small 120 heaters than can be purchased anywhere. I am very disapointed with the out put.

Does exactly what I expected a 17K BTU heater to do. I use this to heat a 20x24 insulated garage with 10ft ceilings. At 17K BTU's, this takes a few hours to raise the temp in my garage from around 40 to mid-60's, but it has no problems maintaining 65 degree temps in 10 degree weather, and it will push the temps into the 70's if I let it run that high. It's quiet and small, which is good. It has a "thermostat" with settings that range from low to high, so you can't actually dial in a temp with this. However, I have had mine set to "low" for a week now (first week of January in Boston), and the garage temp is holding pretty steady in the mid fifties. Overall, I'm very happy with this heater.

Dayton G73 Utility Heater

I am using this in a 400SF attached garage in Cleveland, OH. There is a bedroom above, a 70 year old wood door, two man-doors to outside, a large single pane window and the inside walls are finished but there is no insulation in them. The doors are a bit drafty especially the big car door. The coldest it's been since I installed the heater is high teens to low 20's. I can get the garage to 65 degrees with the heater at it's 2nd highest output level. There is a thermostat on the unit. You have to set some jumpers inside the unit to select the output level. When it's 25-30 outside it runs 60 to 80% of the time. At 5.6 cents/KWH cost is less than 20 cents per hour to run at level 3 running 60 to 80% of the time. That is about 1/5 the cost for the propane heater I was using and the electric doesn't add moisture to the air which is better for my tools. In the morning if the garage is down to 45 or so it takes about an hour to get it back up to 60.

The unit is meant to be hard wired to 220V. I put on a cord like for a dryer and plug it into a 220 outlet. It uses less power than my electric dryer. Build quality is very good and mounting is pretty easy. It's not too noisy though it isn't silent. There is sometimes some vibration of the housing. It's usually the drop door on the bottom and it could be dampened with some foam along the edge.

Granger sells this unit. I found an ebay dealer from CA with a price ($265) that was more than $100 less than Granger. The unit was drop shipped from Granger in two days.

Overall this unit is an excellent match to my garage heating needs. It would probably do fine with a garage that was 50% larger and maybe more if it had good seals on the doors and was well insulated. That makes a large difference.

THIS IS THE ONE TO BUY !!!

First off, I purchased this on EBAY at 7pm. Approximately 28 hours later, it was at my door! I own an 20' L X 20' W X 11'H steel building, with mild insulation. At 30* outside, set at 3/4 power, the thing keeps my place at about 76*. Not at all running constant. I have yet to see my power bill, but at the 220v, compared to the 110v heater I was running to keep the place at 65*, I think I'll do alright. It shipped right from the factory, it weighs about 28 lbs, Free Shipping, - they sell it for $399 plus shipping ----- Do the math. This was the cheapest $ of all the research I did on this fan. Excellent service, easy to hook up. I wish I had the heater 2 years ago!

Thanks !
PJ

I bought this to heat a 700 square foot insulated garage. it does an adequate job considering the space is bigger than the unit is rated for. it takes about 4 hours to heat the ara 10 degrees. A great value for the money, easy instalation, samll size.

I like the way this works for me. I have a well insulated shop that is 26' by 32' with 10' ceilings. I keep it at 55 when I am not in there. The heater will raise the temp to 70 in about an hour with the outside temp at 32. It has worked well so far and with middle Tennessee winters not being extreem I think it will be just fine.

I'm heating a 300 square foot work area with this heater. We've already had some below 30 degree days this past week and heater has kept the area toasty. If I was trying to heat an area any larger, or with higher ceilings then the 8 foot ceiling I have, then I would suggest a larger unit. You'll need 10 gauge wire for this unit and a 30 amp breaker.

  Good Heater

I bought the G73 heater for my secondary garage. This building measures 24'x 32'. It has 2"x6" insulated walls and at least 18" of blown insulation in the attic. The garage door is also insulated. The G73 is designed to heat 500 sq ft, as my space is larger, I took a chance it would work. My gamble paid off. The G73 has 3 marks below the 'LOW' setting (I don't quite know why). I set the dial on the second mark below 'LOW' and the G73 kept the temp at 48 degrees. Since installing the heater the outside temps have been anywhere from 30 degrees below 0 to 30 degrees above 0. The garage stays at 48 degrees. My electric bill went up about $30 a month.

I had the electrical already in place for the heater so from the time I opened the shipping box to the time I had a heated shop was roughly 30 minutes.
I highly recommend the G73.

We have already put it in our garage. It has kept our garage at a reasonable temperature even when the outside dipped well below 0 degrees. It was easily installed as we did it ourselves. We highly recommend it to anyone looking for a garage heater.

This is a Great little heater. It keeps my 2 stall shop comfortably warm. It is very quiet, much quieter than the Torpedo style heaters. Installation was a breeze from the carton to operational in less than 1 hour. If there was any negative about this unit and that is that the dial for the temperature setting only has High and Low marked on it. It would be nice if it was marked in degrees.
Overall this product get an A+. If you are looking for a inexpensive to buy and operate utility heater, this is a GREAT buy.

I've had my G73 installed for about 3 weeks and it's doing a great job heating my 24' x 24' x 10' ceiling two car garage. No insulation in either the ceiling or walls, but it's sheet rocked, with well-insulated garage doors. So far I've had no trouble getting the temps up to 65 when it was in the 20's outside, and 70 when the temps are in the 30s. It was very easy to install by myself (I have a 100amp sub-panel in my garage so pulling a 240v/30amp line to it was a snap). Quiet, and with the thermostat it doesn't run much once the room gets up to temp. I've tried various propane heaters in the past (wife was bothered by the fumes getting into the house) and the small 5100 btu cube heater I had just didn't cut it. I wish I had bought this unit years ago - the best thing I bought for my shop in a loooong time. Highly recommended!

I just purchased a Dayton G73 Heater. My garageis 24'X24' & has 10' ceilings and is fully insulated. This little unit did a remarkable job of heating it up. I am near Pittsburg so you know the temp can get quite cold.

It throws air quite well too! If you have a space that is around 500 sq. feet and want to keep it 60-70 degrees in cold weather, I strongly recommend this heater. IF you do not have insulation, I would stay away from this.
Hook up was simple as well did it my self in less than 1 hour.

I am very happy with this purchase, I reviewed several heaters including gas units. This is good bang for the buck!!!!

Heater works well. Noise levels are average for an industrial heater such as this. I am heating a 16x32 room in my garage and it keeps up pretty good. I still need to supplement with propane to keep it at 68 deg. The room has no insulation in the cieling, walls, or cement floor so it does good considering the lack of R values. I would recommed it over the other no name brands.

This heater works great in my application (8' ceiling, 420 sqft). The unit works great and heats up the garage in a matter of minutes, even when the temp is 30deg outside. If your garage is larger than mine you may want to consider two units or one larger unit. Install was easy and took me about 2 hrs.

I was a little leary in purchasing this unit. We've got a 3 car garage and wanted a unit that would prevent the temperature from going below 50 or 40 degrees. This unit does just that and was easy to install by myself.

This was a really good buy. The heater is rated to heat 500sf and so I bought 2 of them to heat my 1200sf shop with 8 ft ceilings, to 60 degrees. I only needed one. Quality is excellent. Installation is easy. I mounted and wired them myself in about 4 hours. Packaging was impressive. Double boxed with bubble wrap, giving no opportunity for damage. They work like a champ. The Only item making me say "hmmmmm" is the thermostat dial that reads low-med-high with 2 incremental lines between each. Mine are set one notch below low and I turn them off when working in the area. My shop is insulated. Lew Snodgrass, Battle Ground, Washington.
