There are some really good songs here. Has more "jangly" guitars than I expected, but I like that stuff. So it worked out. My favorites are tracks 1, 2, and 5.

This is different, but really good

The musix style is not really common but it fits me. By its differences from other popular bands who only fit the popular mould labels tell them to, Days of the New bring something different to my ears, and also to my soul.

  Amazing CD
Review created: 04/12/09

I love this CD. The guitar is amazing and it has this dark quality to it. His voice and his harmonies with himself are unique. All the songs on this CD are worth listening to.

This is a CD that came out in the late 90's, alot of people have forgotten about them. This is a great collection of songs from start to finish. The acoustic guitar throughout the CD really sets the band apart from other groups in the 90's, also with popular songs like Shelf in the room, Touch Peel Stand, and Freak. The disc is a must have for music lovers who like 90's rock like Pearl Jam, Stone Temple Pilots, or Alice In Chains

  Classic old school (grung)

Music is good, instruments are different than most mainstream bands. And the writing of the lyrics is worth listening to. Calming is how I would place this music with good lyrics. Worth it.

Music and lyrics from the brilliant mind of Travis Meeks. Do yourself a favor and pick this disc up. This band broke up a few short years after this disc and the some of it members went on to form Tantric.

i am the ground.. and the dirt.. walk on me...
Review created: 10/06/07

i picked this album up on tape the summer of '99 in the midst of a crazy ear infection
but this album made it alllllll better

first ill get this out of the way: travis meeks is a f*^$ing GENIUS.

this is their first album, released in 97 or 98 i believe. the whole feel of the album is very earthy, due to the exclusive use of acoustic guitars. its a lot harder to play acoustic guitars; theres a lot less to rely upon. it all combines together in such an even way.. no instrument drowns out or overshadows another. the music is very mellow in some parts, other parts it can even be a bit creepy, but throughout it flows with the force of a river. a dynamite rhythm section in bassist jesse vest & drummer matt taul, a scorching lead guitarist in todd whitener, and what can only be described as a powerhouse frontman in rhythm guitarist/vocalist travis meeks all come together to create this gem, this unspoiled soundscape of moody, atmospheric acoustic rock. make no bones about it, the guitars are acoustic but this packs a punch; everything about this album is just so raw & honest. the artwork matches the mood of the music so perfectly, you know it just has to be a vision come to life. its a shame that this is the only days of the new album like this (strictly acoustic), but one can hardly fault mr meeks for consistently growing as an artist & human being. all the more reason to cherish each and every album as theyre unique and will never come around again. the follow ups (green, red) are every bit as headstrong, inspired and flawless as this masterpiece.

bottom line, if youre into grooving riffs, acoustic guitars, solid songwriting, and songs that will stick with you a lifetime, pick this album up at all costs, you will not be disappointed.

two bongs wayyyyyyyy up!

*eagerly anticipating the purple album* :D

I've read 11 excellet review before buying ... now I think that I can only be the new reviewer and say: "Excellent!!!"
Similar to Pear Jam, some times, but very particular.
My favourite song are:
01. Shelf In The Room
08. Now
09. Whimsical
All the work deserves your attention, I think.

I love this CD because of the melody and sound of the singer of this group. This one I also used to have but my ex took it and I missed listening to it so much that I bought my own. This is also an example of what used to be and probably will never be again.

Not overly mainstream band is one of the best
Review created: 02/04/07

I great up when the "Seattle sound" of Pearl Jam, Nirvana, Alice in Chains was exploding onto the scenes. Travis Meeks, Days of the New, is right out of the mold on Lane Staley. Great acoustic sounds with intense vocals makes the album, which bears their name, easy to listen to.

  DAYS OF THE NEW
Review created: 11/07/06

I basically purchased this cd for two reasons, one being that I never had it orginally and second becuase it has all four signatures. I have seen this band and they are great in concert. The cd has alot of radio friendly hits which sky rocketed this band on a national level. I enjoy the great guitar work and the melodies that this cd had overall.

  Good CD

carlroad ( 9 )

I bought this CD only knowing two songs ("touch, peel and stand" and "the down town". However i did give it a thorough listening to. for a DOTN fan, this album is a definate must. It does tend to get a little dull at times, but makes up for it with some killer tracks.
