i am the ground.. and the dirt.. walk on me...

i picked this album up on tape the summer of '99 in the midst of a crazy ear infection
but this album made it alllllll better
first ill get this out of the way: travis meeks is a f*^$ing GENIUS.
this is their first album, released in 97 or 98 i believe. the whole feel of the album is very earthy, due to the exclusive use of acoustic guitars. its a lot harder to play acoustic guitars; theres a lot less to rely upon. it all combines together in such an even way.. no instrument drowns out or overshadows another. the music is very mellow in some parts, other parts it can even be a bit creepy, but throughout it flows with the force of a river. a dynamite rhythm section in bassist jesse vest & drummer matt taul, a scorching lead guitarist in todd whitener, and what can only be described as a powerhouse frontman in rhythm guitarist/vocalist travis meeks all come together to create this gem, this unspoiled soundscape of moody, atmospheric acoustic rock. make no bones about it, the guitars are acoustic but this packs a punch; everything about this album is just so raw & honest. the artwork matches the mood of the music so perfectly, you know it just has to be a vision come to life. its a shame that this is the only days of the new album like this (strictly acoustic), but one can hardly fault mr meeks for consistently growing as an artist & human being. all the more reason to cherish each and every album as theyre unique and will never come around again. the follow ups (green, red) are every bit as headstrong, inspired and flawless as this masterpiece.
bottom line, if youre into grooving riffs, acoustic guitars, solid songwriting, and songs that will stick with you a lifetime, pick this album up at all costs, you will not be disappointed.
two bongs wayyyyyyyy up!
*eagerly anticipating the purple album* :D
