When it comes to gory and very bloody Movie Flicks, I am not a total fan of it at all. However, in 1978 when I saw sequel to George Romero's (1968 NIGHT of The Living Dead) classic cult flick DAWN of the DEAD. This was a movie that really scared the HELL out of me. But being only 16 years old at the time, I was scared of my own shadow.
NOW nearly 30 years later, I have added this Movie Pack of Dawn of the Dead to my collection of rare and hard to find movies. And I have to admit, its very, very entertaining and very funny as well.
Romero has really created a very classic horror movie that should go down as one of the all time very best, and it should rank in the top five of all time (The Exorcist and Frankenstein as the top two).
Romero has really blended the gory blood with some very funny state of the art pranks with his cast of ghoulish flesh eating zombies who by far look as though they are winning in this flick.
With the Army and the Police losing on the battle field, two police officers from a SWAT team along with a woman reporter and her boyfriend take off in a helicopter to get away from the zombies in the big city and instead find themselves stopping at a huge shopping mall and thats when the REAL FUN begins. Our heroes take on the whole army of zombies in the mall when their greed overwhelms their fear of being torn apart by the monsters. Human greed really is shown here in this flick. The mall is then over run by an army of motor cycle gangsters who raid and pillage every thing they can from the mall when they invade it. The zombies are hacked, cut, shot, burned, blown up and just totally abused by the sick and warped motor cycle hoodlums. And to the point that its so bad, that it becomes funny and humorous because Romero does show the side of our inner beings of what real monsters human beings can be. Too me, this shows WHO the REAL MONSTERS are and not the zombies. As one of the main characters in the movie DAWN of the DEAD said, "When there is no more room in Hell, the Dead shall walk the Earth!"
How right he is!!

Movie review courtesy of Deathgrind.com:
Dawn Of The Dead : George A. Romero : 1978 : 5/5 : The second movie in the famous trilogy. Even though I don’t like Romero’s zombies that much (I prefer Fulci’s stumbling, expressionless, decaying zombies), this movie scores high in every department. The plot is good, the special effects are good and it also sports what is probably the highest zombie count in movie history! Another cool thing is that the characters in the movie are really believable and well portrayed.

A must for any fan of the living dead / zombie series! 3 versions of the film, a documentary, and also a comic book! what a deal. This is the movie that spawned all the copycats. The second in the series following the night of the living dead, this film set the bar for gore standards high. If you liked the remake, you must see the original! get it, and prepare to be creeped out!

Dawn of the dead (2004 DVD)is the best version of the DVD you're going to find. (so far)

Basically you're getting 3 cuts of the movie as well as bonus disk.

The original US cut was the best, The European cut was satisfactory, and the US uncut version was a bit long for my tastes, but they were all alright I guess. All three cuts come with commentary, so if you're a DVD junkie like myself then you'll no doubt wet yourself over all that crap. The bonus disk pretty much tops off the deal.

If you're George A. Romero fan then I shouldn't have to tell you to buy this, as you most likely already have it. If you like classic zombie movies or zombie movies in general I'd definitely look into this DVD.

I can't forgive George for his missteps in his 4th dead movie, but considering how good Dawn of the Dead is I don't think I have to.

  Best of the Dead Series
Review created: 10/15/06

Romero hits a home run with this second entry in his LIVING DEAD series. With dark themes and subtle social commentaries reflecting the times of this entry... DAWN of the DEAD serves up a great story and for the gore hounds the ragu spaghetti gore FX are enough to make you happy.
