THE DAVE EDMUNDS ANTHOLOGY contains a 51 page booklet with biographical information, interviews, photographs, recording information and track-by-track commentary by Dave Edmunds. ANTHOLOGY is a perfect two-disc career-spanning retrospective of Dave Edmunds' work. The earliest selections date from Edmunds' tenure with Love Sculpture. Their five tracks range from the mild psychedelia of "River To Another Day" to the flat-out guitar rave-up of "Sabre Dance." The Welsh-born Edmunds later went solo, landing himself on the charts on both sides of the Atlantic with his cover of the old Smiley Lewis hit, "I Hear you Knockin'." Edmunds justifiably built his reputation as a first-class guitarist and song stylist with a steady stream of fine albums throughout the '70s and '80s, first with the band Rockpile, later in assorted solo and group settings. He consistently draws from excellent sources, covering material by Graham Parker, Elvis Costello, NRBQ, John Fogerty, and Bruce Sprintsteen, among others. Edmund's always makes each tune his own. ANTHOLOGY is an excellent overview for an already established fan or for anyone unfamiliar with Edmunds' work.
