I particularly enjoyed the theme music to this movie its very nicely done. The movie gives you a clear impression of the rough and tumble of a soldiers lot cooped up in a submarine albeit from the German perspective rather than the usual British. These are very human figures connecting to the reality that confronts them and the loves they have left behind and who await tem. If they make it back safely that is, while navigating the treacherous waters in their Uboat. If you love the German people as I do, you will want to see this movie for the great spirit that is German. A bit less than polished perhaps in the interplay between the actors but then they have their hearts in the right place. A movie worth owning and perhaps a nice one to donate to the local library as well.

Das Boot is based on real accounts of one boats tour and is one of the best war dramas ever. I highly encourage that you watch the movie in german with english subtitles to get the full effect of the movie. Das Boot is not about the Germans vs the Allies, but rather a group of very young men in their fight for survival. The movie shows how far the germans were brainwashed by Hitler's propaganda. The soundtrack matches very well with the film, and is great in surround sound (for the updated 2003 Directors Cut). Enjoy.
