I bought this movie as a gift for my son but since it was used and I felt I should watch it to be sure it was in good shape before sending it to him. I now want a copy for myself! If you enjoy seeing idiots kill themselves as I do, I highly recommend The Darwin Awards Movie!

Great movie, entertaining for the mind. A forensic detective, played by Joseph Fiennes, and an insurance claims investigator, played by Winona Ryder, trek to investigate a potential Darwin Award winner. From www.darwinawards.com: "The Darwin Awards salute the improvement of the human genome by honoring those who accidentally kill themselves in really stupid ways."

Hilarity ensues as they come across various accidental deaths and try to determine their causes. Never being what they appear to be, these accidents have quirky back stories that keep you engaged throughout the movie.

Can watch again and again.

If you are a fan of Blazing Saddles and Airplane, you're in for a treat with this film. Loosely paradying the X-Files, this thing is funny from beginning to end. Watch this and you'll know where some of the stories you get by email came from.

weird quirky intriguing ~ not to bad ~ Worth watching
Review created: 04/29/09

I think that realizing people do all these weird things was probably the most interesting part. Finnes plays an excellent neurotic. And Winona is the prefect anecdote to his weirdness. Its not a run of the mill film or plot, but it kept me entertained and after all that is the point. Worth a watch! MR

  The Darwin Awards
Review created: 08/06/08

The Darwin Awards are given to those people who do such outrageous things that they kill themselves in the process, thereby eliminating themselves from the gene pool.
I had just reread the book of the same name. When I did a search to see if anyone had other editions, I came across the DVD. I just could not imagine how they could make a movie of this. The price was right and I bought it to find out. It was surprisingly a clever plot that touched on some of the major awards. The acting was fairly good but it could have done without the profanity. The movie would have been more believable with a different ending. Over all it was a pleasant 90 minutes and will be for anyone who is into the Darwin Awards.

  Guess where WInona's career went?

I decided to purchase this DVD because I wanted to see what Winona was up to in terms of her career - not bad choice in hobbies or acquaintances.

Anyway, although the movie had some moments, it was a bit too quirky even for the topic of the Darwin Awards.

Worth a rental? Sure.

  The Darwin Awards

The idea behind The Darwin Awards is funny and clever. The articles themselves are a hoot to read. The movie maintains the vibe of the articles well and merges written word to movie well. My only wish is that more Darwin Award stories were included in the movie. I think the movie covers about four or so.

This movie just proves that certain people should NOT be part of the human race. By killing themselves (in very creative ways) they are proving Darwin's theory. This DVD is being passed around to my family/friends, I don't think that any of us can stand to watch it more than once.

Folks, this is a unique movie. Why? Because never before, and probably never again, will you see a rocket powered Chevy depicted as driving over 300 mph. and flying. This may be an Internet legend, but, as I said you have and will never see anything like this. The single scene is worth more than a lot of other movies. (ie.: "...because at 300 mph. the tires melted" & "...saw his destiny coming at him at 400 mph." -lines like these are unequaled.) The video is a little lacking in acuracy so we could focus on it. (Did you see the "Thrust"? L.S.R.) I watched that scene over and over. Well worth the rent.
? Psycologically, could the cadidates be predetermined - only on a statystical percentage, and on a probabilithy basis, with much peer review. [Comming Soon!]
