Dark Reel stars Edward Furlong (The Visitation, Cruel World and more). In what is, in my opinion, one of the worst films of this decade.
The movie starts with a scene from 30 years earlier when an actress is taken to a movie set and hacked to pieces by a slasher posing as a movie producer. We jump forward to Edward Furlong who is watching a really bad 'B' movie, since Furlong is an actor-wanna-be he signs up to win a walk on role in a movie. When he wins the contest (Surprise, surprise) he is thrust into the action of a live Pirate film.
Unfortunately the stars of the film are being murdered, in vivid detail, by the same slasher who we saw at the beginning of the film.
The acting in this movie is very poor. The dialog is even worse.
Even for a 'B' movie, which are normally full of bad acting and dialog this one goes far beyond bad.
If you are into gore and do not care what you watch to see it, then I guess this movie will do.
If you want good action and good acting then this movie is definitely not the one to watch.
I guess having a few run-ins with the authorities gives an actor few options in his acting career and this forced Furlong to take part in this movie.
The only thing I do not understand is why Lance Henriksen (Alien vs. Predator, Alien and many, many more) is in this film (He plays the movie producer). Henriksen is a fine actor with a long history of television and motion picture appearances. Why he is in this film is beyond me, I can only guess that he signed up before he knew what he was getting into. Henriksen does have a couple of new movies in the works, you will see him in Screamers: The Hunting, Jennifer's Body & Blood Shot this year and TBK: The Toolbox Murders in 2010.
I am glad that I rented this movie for only $1.00 because it was not even worth that price.
Skip this one unless you feel like you must see it.
Rated 1 of 5 and that is being generous
