Best Picture 2008 - The Dark Knight

You do not go in to this movie expecting a heart-wrenching love story. You do not sit down with your popcorn and soda expecting to be so shocked that you have to put your hands over your mouth so as not to annoy the movie goers near you in the sold out theatre. You do not pay 12 dollars feeling like the ticket should have cost more. Don't feel bad, it's not your fault.
Beautiful becomes synonymous with Dark from minute one all the way to minute 183.
Batman and Bruce Wayne. They become different characters and you really do believe that Bruce is fooling the public, unlike most Superman movies where you continuously ask yourself, "Do they really not know it’s him? I mean, it's just glasses, he even talks the same!"
The Joker. Remember what it was like to be deathly afraid of clowns when you were a child? It's just like that. If that wasn't you, go see the movie and you'll know right away.
Harvey Dent. Outstanding as a lawyer and even better as a man who is torn to pieces. Ugly, ugly pieces. He did everything he was made for and so much more, becoming a driving force behind Gotham, inspiring its masses and securing its walls.
Rachael Dawes. She makes Love her and it rewards you with intensity and heart shattering accuracy. As another knight once said, she is the arrow.
The Dark Knight is, in a word, perfection.
It displays purpose, passion and purity in character development, direction, entertainment and artistry. It is well edited yet long and exhaustive. It tells the story in great detail yet it never bores. Most importantly, you leave the theatre fully satisfied and yet still wanting more. Again, give it to me again. Don't make me leave. I can fit another viewing in before work at 7:30 right?
It is more than a movie, it is an achievement. It is a collaboration of sounds, sights and emotions that tip the scales, outweighing all others. If it receives no awards, no nominations, no stars on the Hollywood walk of fame, it will still sit high above, a benchmark for the movie industry and for all in film that come after it. Do not sleep on the Dark Knight.
