  Stuart Woods - Favorite Author

I am an avid reader, book collector and book seller. Stuart Woods is one of my favorite authors and I truly enjoy his lead character - Stone Barrington. Woods' books are always full of excitement, plot twists, and of course, sexual escapades, nothing too graphic though. In Dark Harbor he continues Stone's character development, albeit he is aging very slowly.

The setting for the book is one of my favorites - New York City and the coast of Maine. Stone Barrington's lifestyle is also very interesting as he likes the best of everything - fine wine, good food, excellent housing and his own airplane. If you read all of Woods' Stone Barrington novels you will discover Stone has several relatives and friends that tend to bequeath him their homes and other possessions including money - we should all be so fortunate.

Since Stuart Woods' novels are ones I collect I always buy First Edition, First Printing. It is especially important that the quality of the book be exceptional. I was pleased that the seller wrapped this book individually and shipped it in a box and not a padded envelope.

There is absolutely nothing I disliked about this book or it's purchase. In the past I would have bought this book from a retail store where I could have examined it and ensured it's quality. However, as an eBay seller and eBay store owner I think it is important to support our community. To that end I now buy most of my books on eBay.

I recommend this book whole-heartedly and hope you enjoy a terrific day with Stone, his associates, and his lovers.

I am always anxious to continue the Stone Barrington Series, Stuart comes through again with another page-whipping story. I bought this on eBay because I could get a next-to-new book for a fraction of the new price. It was a great read and I look foward to the next in the series. If you are a Stuart Woods fan and haven't read this one.....go get it.

Stuart Wood's latest novel brings his sophisticated hero Stone Barrington to small town New England in a great thriller with exciting drama and page turner suspense. Dark Harbor is the perfect mix of sexy intrigue and swift suspense. Always a pleasure to read!

  Still a Good Read

I have read all 20 something books of this author and obviously enjoy his writings. Like many other readers, I particularly enjoy the Stone Barrington series. It is fascinating how he builds upon characters and relationships from his many preceeding works that creates a certain intricacy and intimacy with the reader. Reading his books is like reminiscing with a good old friend; something to be savored. I like to think of his writings as desert, something
sweet and frothy that can be devoured quickly and enjoyably.
That being said, I also think his novels are becoming less dense and imaginative as compared to his earlier works. I get the feeling that like many great artists, Woods may be running out of steam. Nonetheless, this work remains desert, only less filling.

Another Stone Barrington book, but this one dose not live up to other great titles by this company. Stone is at Elaine's with his friend, NYPD Lieutenant Dino Bacchetti when another friend, CIA mystery man Lance Cabot shows up with his protege Holly Barker (one of Stone's lovers) shows up.
Snappy dialog ensues as Cabot asks Stone Barrington what he knows about Richard Stone. More snappy dialog ensues as Stone Barrington explains that Richard Stone is a first-cousin with whom he has had little contact over the years. That limits the sadness around the table when Cabot tells Barrington that his cousin and his family are dead in an apparent murder/sucide. (By the way, I intend "snappy dialog" as a compliment. Woods really does have a knack for crisp, insouciant dialog that is very reminiscent to me of Dashiell Hammet. Woods' work is a total delight to read.)
My! Would you believe that just the other day, Stone Barrington received a sealed package from cousin Richard with instruction that it be opened only in the event of Richard's death. This is obviously an appropriate time to open it. Barrington has been named executor and left the house in Dark Harbor, Maine.
Now it turns out that cousin Richard was a biggie at the CIA and about to assume his duties as third in command. Lance Cabot asks Stone to investigate.
And we're off to the races. Stone Barrington goes to Dark Harbor (in his own plane, of course) and begins to poke around. Why it looks like cousin Richard Stone, his wife and daughter were murdered! But by whom on an island with only a few hundred permanent residents? Could it be a revenge plot against the CIA? Well, there are bunch of other retired CIA officers living on the island too . . .But there's Richard's brother as well, who has been disinherited. And now bodies start popping up all over the place. One of the CIA retirees bites the dust as does a local teenage girl. Youll have to buy the book to find out what happens next!!!

Another Woods "Easy Read". Woods readers will enjoy. Stone's cousin dies(is murdered?) & leaves Sone another house, this one in Dark Harbor, Maine. Did his CIA job or greedy brother or??? kill him? Needless to sy, Stone, Holly, Dino, & Lance will discover the truth. Holly has a little trouble, & as only she can, handles it herself. It is a quick & easy read, in the Woods style.

I enjoy reading suspense novels. I first read the little synopsis on the back of a magazine advertising a mystery book club and I like the review of the story. After purchasing the book, I can say I liked the font style because it made for easy reading for me. I would read other novels written by Stuart Woods because I do tend to read mystery novels. The story keeps moving and although I have not yet finished the book yet there has been a lot of unespected turns which has held my interest. I would recommend this book to anyone to like complex thrillers.

  WOODS WINS AGAIN
Review created: 07/09/06

Stuart Woods is a genius at making us fall in love with his characters. Stone Barrington is one hot commodity. I also really enjoyed the more in depth look at Dino, Stone's best friend. Woods integrated his Holly Barker character... this is also a very smart move to interest you in the series he writes about her. I thoroughly enjoyed this read, but I always love anything by this great author!
