This book unfolds like a nice cup of hot chocolate on a warm winters day. A time when people were concerned for their neighbor, and also a chance to see life through a young persons eyes!

This is a great book. I first read it when I was a teenager and remembered that it was very funny and entertaining. It tells a story about a little girls life in the 1950's from the prosective of the little girl. Fannie Flagg is a brilliant author. If you have read (and liked) anything that she has written, you will love 'Daisy' It is definitely laugh out loud funny.

Fannie Flaggs writes characters that are brillent, funny, and honest. Any one of them could walk in my back door and I would feel as if they were family. This book is filled with chuckles. It is so easy to read too, written in diary form.

We follow a young girl who loves her daddy, dosn't understand her mother, and has a colorful bunch of friends, A little girl who always finds trouble especially when trying not to. She is a honest tell it like it is girl and the same rings true for the young woman we see her become.

Fannie Flag is a true Americana author
Review created: 04/08/09

"Daisy Fay And The Miracle Man" is Flagg's first book, published originally as "Coming Attractions" and though not confirmed, appears to be semi-autobiographical. It's written in Diary Style with the occasional news clipping-much s "Fried green Tomatoes" and tells the story of a young girl who is loved and cared for by her alcoholic father and we grow up with her, laughing at the situations and the personality of our leading lady all the way up until she manages to win the Miss America Pageant and heads to Hollywood to make career of herself. Underneath it is story of a severely neglected and abused girl. There is no author who writes about life's difficulties without feeling sorry for herself better than Flagg.

Flagg has gained greater notoriety as a writer than she has an actress-despite the fact that she plays a cameo role in the film "Fried Green Tomatoes". Her skill as writer becomes more apparent with each novel as she is able to change her style and voice almost as effectively as Wally Lamb. Her books are not huge commitments and would make outstanding reading assignments for those of us who homje school; this book in particular is likely her best as it is brilliantly re-written, edited and connected together for brilliance. Fannie Flagg stands among those Americans who will place America on the literary map that began with Twain, Hawthorne, Jackjson, IRving, Lamb and yes, King.

Daisy Fay and the Miracle Man by Fannie Flagg (1992)
Review created: 10/06/08

A friend told me I would enjoy this book. I had read "Fried Green Tomatoes at the Whistle stop cafe" years before, and very much enjoyed that book. I took her advise and gave it this one chance. I'm SO glad I did!

This is one of the funniest books I've read in years! It often had me laughing outloud, even when reading late at night! It's the story of Daisy Fay, her family, her friends, and those around her who are not always friendly. Fannie Flagg has such a gift for writing humor. You'll be wrapped up in this crazy tale before you know it. Sometimes it's sad, but it's always funny. I hope that this will be made into a movie someday.

I would not suggest this for very young readers. My daughter is 11 years old, and I don't think this would be appropriate at her age.

I bought a copy for my sister in law, when she had surgery and needed something to occupy her time. I got another copy to loan to my Mom, and we handed that one off to my best friend when her mother passed away, and she was very much in need of something to laugh about. Laughter is the best medicine!

I'm working my way through all of the Fannie Flagg books, and having a great time. Daisy Fay is the perfect introduction to Fannie. Happy reading!

Actually this is one of my favorite books..as well as being funny it is a true climb from poverty with will, bravery and insight. Daisy is my favorite character and I usually buy this book for most teenagers. An easy fun read.

Having read several other books by Fannie Flagg, I found this one not near as interesting. A one person story. I also saw the play based on the book, both left something to be desired. I LOVED her other books, tho. I bought this book to read before I saw the play.

  Couldn't finish the book

I have read other books by Fannie Flagg so I assumed I would like this one to. It started off so good but then when the young girl and her family moved to the beach, I think the story fell apart. I really didn't see where the book was going and I had to force myself to keep reading it. After awhile I just gave up. In my opinion, not one of Flagg's better books.

I loved it, loaned it to someone and it was never returned, guess they loved it too. I'm buying another copy just so I'll have one in my collection. A young girls life in vintage America, so funny and easy to connect to.
