DISH Network ViP 211 DTV Receiver

This satellite receiver not only receives the satellite signals, but also the local over the air signals. These are identified and included in the guide. This feature is a major convenience in selecting and recalling channels. Picture quality is exceptionally good.

One minor inconvenience is with the local over the air channels. The remote cannot select the decimal channel numbers; example 5.1 there is no "." on the controller. The best way to get these is by going to the guide and selecting them there. Minor inconvenience.

I am very happy with this receiver.

I bought this receiver to own it without having to commit myself to a Dish two year contract, I can't blame the seller because it was new in the box, never open, But it did not work because the installer claim that it was not upgraded and he could not get it to download the high definition set up. therefore I had to pay $50.00 more for a replacement and commit myself to a two year contract and a warranty fee for the replacement. thanks for asking for my oppinion, and please warn others that this thing can happen and that is better to go ahead and deal with the Dish Network. Has all the HD capability and features you'd want. Just be careful buying a receiver outside Dish.

I thought I would save money by buying off eBay and adding to my Dish service, cause to add an additional receiver Dish wanted $100 to have the receiver and person come out to install it. No matter what you do to add receiver, lease from them or buy yourself, your still going to pay $7/month service fee. So no savings there.

I my case the receiver that I bought was a lemon, despite Dish trying, and even sending me out a new SmartCard for the receiver, the receiver would not actvate and was like stuck in a West African timezone. I ended up having to have a Dish technician come out, he vaerified the receiver had issues, and (praise for dish) replaced the faulty receiver with a new one.

With Postage I paid $144.01 for the eBay receiver, and in the end still had to have Dish come out and fix things due to bad receiver (there was no wiring or other issues in home -- it was a bad receiver), and sadly I could have gotten it all for $100 in the first place. Stick with Dish where you can....

It's not widely known that this model can be upgraded to a DVR. You add your own USB hard drive, and pay a one time $40 fee to Dish to activate on ALL receivers on account. I have one 211 already set up as DVR with an off-the-shelf 250gb external drive. Works just like my 622, except single tuner, can still watch recorded program while recording another, and time-shift and record live OTA HD like the big guys. Adding another one now, should work the same.

Nice add on 2nd receviver - has a lot of connections available as well it can display local chanels in HDTV

This product arrived in perfect condition, and I'm very pleased with the ease of operation, it was very easy to hook up.I'm sure I will be using it for many years to come.

this is a great buy who wouldn't want TRUE HD. makes you feel like you are there with all the bells and whistles and the no hassle of Dish Network i would recommend this receiver to anyone who wants a crystal clear picture

The 211 and 211k are cheap, able to receive Dish's HD content, allows you to plug in an external USB hard drive to turn it into a DVR without a monthly fee, and doesn't require a phone line! Way to step it up Dish!

The only con I've seen, is that there is often a very slight audio/video sync timing gap where the video and audio don't quite line up.
