DC Super Heroes: The Filmation Adventures (DVD, 2008)

This is a collection I've been looking forward to for years in a way. I didn't grow up in the 60's or 70's ( I didn't even exist) but Filmation was very much a staple of my childhood. I was fortunate enough to watch these old superhero shows (Superman, Aquaman, Batman, etc and my favorite, Superboy) on VHS and on stations like USA when they aired. I rediscovered them as a teenaged college student a few years back and have been eager to track them down since.

What was available online was of very poor quality and it has been shown frequently on Boomerang but I still wanted to see them unedited and in the best possible quality. And that's exactly what Warner Bros. released, a collection of shorts that were unedited, included all of the original intros, and looked and sounded spectacular. The feature on Lou Scheimer was informative, well done and a must see for animation buffs.

There's one glaring error on this disc( it's really not that big a deal); somehow pictures of Birdman (of Hanna Barbera fame) show up on the menu instead of Hawkman. It's pretty funny really. I love Birdman anyway so I can't say it took detracted anything from my entertainment.

I haven't been fortunate enough to view the previous Superman and Aquaman collections but after seeing how well this was done, I'll definitely get them the first chance that comes my way. I just hope Warner Bros. can create a Superboy collection before this decade is over.
